Look the list of team members, you could see that they have a lot of modellers.
So, they are creating original and very nice characters.
They are making a very good work, the community need new stuff like this. A lot of guys worked on textures, on weapons models...
But how many on mutants or npc meshes? Not a lot. Some guys ported character others games ofc, as HL2, CoD or Metro, but I never see something like this.
There is no denying the fact that we rarely do modelling from scratch if we are speaking about NPC models. We do the exact same thing that has been done by other modders of any game for ages: we take a few different models (or a few decades of models) from other games and then combine particular parts all together. Afterwards - retexturing and bump-mapping is done if needed.
The only difference between our modellers (Hakim, Macblack, Scat, Immortal) and the majority of other guys on NPC modelling scene is that we might* have better experience and quality.
*I'm not telling that our guys are the ONLY good NPC modellers in Stalker Modding. It's hard to find the ones like them, though.
And, yeah, we do not break the law when using models from other games as long as we don't sell our mod. Although, we do get some financial help from our fans sometimes. But it's another story.
Use stuff from others games is a good thing if you improve models, and this is that your guys are doing.
You're not only porting models as it. I remember the model of women from HL2 in SoC mods as Narodnaya, it was bad because it needed edits.
As example, I would like to use animals models from Skyrim, but as i'm not a good modeler and as I'm not a animator, I can't edit then to fit to the Zone.
He look like a technician :D I like it :)
Outstanding.
Is this an original character ? or it's just a copy/paste character from another game ?
