Welcome to my first ever Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) Custom Map!

Intro:
Hoth: Lamda base is a big instant action map that is obviously based on the Battle of Hoth from Episode V. The design of the map is not made to resemble the actual battle itself, nor has the aim to be accurate representation of the battle. The map is based on a location I've seen and the theme of Hoth applied to it.

Map Description:
The map itself is a wide open snow combat with multiple trenches and a big tunnel complex in the mountain with plenty of entrances and exits. The outside area of the map has a trench complex that resembles the "E" letter from above which is the first line of Defense for the Rebels. Then there is a tunnel complex in the mountain which can be quite a maze however the minimap shows all the corridors and guides the way. Making the tunnels was pretty hard as I had to make sure that the objects/models of the tunnels didn't have leaks or openings. That happened all the time and it took me a while to fix them all. Hopefully there aren't any gaps left apart from the hangar gap which i couldn't manage to fix. Then I realized that even original maps had gaps and then I figured out why they kept the tunnel section shorter. All of the tunnels are inside a mountain which looks like the letter "L" from above hence the name of the map. On the back end of the Lamda Base we can find the Airspeeder Hangar of the Rebels where airspeeders can be launched to the fight. The final CP of the Rebels is also there. On the North Side of the base, outside the mountain we can find Three Rebel Transports and a few props and trenches below them. This area isn't really used at all. It is accessible from the player but there's nothing to really do there as no CPs can be found there and NPCs never go there. It's there to resemble the actual Hoth Map where there's a Transport Ship back end of the Echo Base. I know it's used for the Campaign but I can't really make a campaign mission yet. It's there just for cosmetics so far.

Map Functionality:
Since it's my first level, the BOT and Command Post setup was quite a challenge for me. However I slowly got the hang of it. The balance of the CP location and the NPC power balance changed multiple times over the development of the map. The releases I will make will be versions that work but there will probably be little problems like NPCs not always going to the goal or one team overpowering the other and so on. Hopefully it's still fun to play and it works properly. I also edited some of the Team Class Options to make them look like more than the actual Hoth. For example I brought the Rebel Pilot and removed the Wookies and Bothan Spies. Similar changes were made to the Imperial side too.

Command Posts:
It was quite a challenge to set up the command posts as I wanted. The initial plan was to make one non-captured CP on the open area of the Imperial Walker Spawns where AT-ATs, AT-STs and Infantry would spawn, and then they would gradually push through the Rebel trench CPs and attack while the Rebels would hold or push back in case they lost points. I had funny results as the Rebels were rushing to the open ground Imperial spawn which I didn't want to. But since I am new to the game engine, and I can't really have full control over these functions yet, I came up with the version you can see in the media which works pretty okay so far. There are Three Rebel Command Posts holding the Trench Lines. One of them is the Shield Generator CP. And one CP on the far front edge of the Trench lines that is under Imperial control. That way the NPC path finding got a little bit more balanced. Now inside the tunnels there are Three Rebel Points all far from eachother. One of the is the Airspeeder Hangar. That's more or less what there is to it.

Known Bugs:
As mentioned above, sometimes the NPC and Team balance may not work as expected.
The hangar entrance and main hangar objects have a slight misalignment that causes a gap line visible from the inside.

I really like this map but it seems like the tow cables from snownspeeder don't work.

Could you fix it?

I'm afraid not. I didn't think of a Hoth environment as suitable for hero assault. But other maps of mine will surely have custom heroes too!

Ah, I understand. I'm from the hero assault community, and I'm in an organization that helps teach people on hero assault, and sometimes flat ground like Hoth would be cool. As long as the CP's weren't half way across the map xD..

I will be looking forward to the maps you do make with hero assault! Will these custom heroes still have all the base game animations? (Ani/Obi, Emperor, Ki, Aayla, Dooku, etc) or will they be totally customized or like the xbox DLC Kit Fisto or Ventress kind of animations?

A little hard to explain because the characters are made up but the skins are more or less what the game already had. Like regular Jedis and the normal heroes with different names to fit my story.

Well i will use stock animations as I prefer things to be as classic as I can because i like classic, and i'm not an animator. And the idea i have in mind really fits the default animations. It's kind of a custom side-story in the star wars universe that i had in mind for years but never made.
