You should change the lighting, this one is awful.

It's best to plan and get ideas BEFORE building the room. Personally, I don't know why there would be what looks like a waiting room on the way into the dorms. It's be more likely that there would be a front desk with an attendant to take messages and keep watch of keycards and such.
Awesome idea. This was kind of like the blue shift intro thing. But thats actually a good idea because theres already a guard outside that door
Agreed add a table or some machines instead of the bench.
As for the lightning it's ok but since a guard is stationed in that area a white light would probably fit better. With a lightning like that I would sleep in right away because such lights make people feel relaxed and making them tired.. :P Also do something for the ceiling that looks boring.
I think it's nice, as it's kept within HL-1 style. This is the way it should look like.
