Half-Life: Decay is an add-on included in the PlayStation 2 port of the first-person shooter computer game Half-Life, developed by Gearbox Software and published in October of 2001. Our team is working on straight port of this game to PC! we shouldn\'t have to be doing this, but for some reason valve/ gearbox scraped decay for the pc. \"Decay PC\"\'s active development began in mid-October of 2005. Like Gearbox\'s other expansion packs Opposing Force and Blue Shift, Decay returns to the setting and timeline of the original story, but with different player characters: two female colleagues of Gordon Freeman, Dr. Gina Cross and Dr. Colette Green, who both take part in the Anomalous Materials laboratory experiment - they make preparations for the experiment under the Test Chamber such as monitoring Anti-Mass spectrometer and delivering anomalous materials to Dr. Freeman. When disaster happens both women together with their collegues Dr. Rosenberg...
The further you go in the mod, the better it becomes. It begins with simple missions and possibly some people would stop playing at the end of chapter 2 or 3. After that, not only the gameplay becomes exciting but the storyline is more interesting (although a reverse resonance cascade doesn't sound very creative). Maybe the most interesting thing about this is how it cross plots with HL Blue Shift and HL Opposing Force. Also it becomes more difficult as you get closer to the end. The end let much to be desired though.
I highly recommend play this in Co-op. Playing it Single Player is challenging, but not in a good way.
A wonderful port of the console version, allowing us PC gamers to finally play it!
Great offical mod.
Good addon with cool gameplay, atmosphere, design and plot.
Decay may be a short mod, but it is sure a fun mod if you are going to play it co-op. If you are going solo well, i think you may find it rather frustrating to switch between players to run different tasks. Nice but not very well-written storyline, same all-hl1 weapons and some new improvements for the GldSource engine. I still give it a 10/10, mainly for the effort of this mod's team to bring Half Life-Decay to the PC platform!
A very good official addition to the HL universe. I found it funnier in a way since I had to think my strategies differently while playing single player since I had to make sure the other player was safe (I liked to switch them from time to time and to share the available ammuntion between them) and the lack of both autosaving and quicksave made it more challenging
The bad now is that it doesn't allow you to change the difficulty and it has some CTD bugs sometimes and in the dorms mission the guard suddenly died without reason (that was really annoying). Besides those minor issues, this team made a really awesome work allowing us to play such a game. Would love to see your game at Steam some day.
I'm probably gonna review it more as the Decay expansion pack itself rather than only as a PC port.
There were a couple of glitches here and there, but most of the time they were more funny than game-breaking, like a tram with the wheelchair scientist suddenly flying to the other side of the map, or a pipe falling off and then floating back up to where it was before. The mod crashed only once too. The gameplay was ok, but there were some annoyances, mainly the air control, marine-only combat area. Some puzzles, without a second person to help, feel like taking too long to finish, and the AI of the companion isn't the brightest, it doesn't follow you and it doesn't really help in combat either. On the last map it kept shooting rocket launcher at vortigaunts, constantly missing.
What's worse is the level design and overall story. It's mostly ok, but it's sometimes confusing and I didn't know what to do, and most of the areas are the same looking, boring offices and maintenance tunnels. It doesn't help either that chapters are made of only one map each, and these maps aren't all that big.
There is some story, but it's acceptable at best, it doesn't really **** me off or anything, it's just not engaging or interesting at all.
Honestly, I don't really see a reason to play it. It's not really bad, but it gets a 5 from me because of how awfully 'meh' it is most of the time, plus it doesn't have much of a purpose as a cooperational mod, since Sven Co-Op is much, much better in every aspect. I'd recommend it only if someone wants to see the lowest point of the Half-Life series.
There are a few things that I liked, though. The main menu music is cool, and the sole fact that this is the only Half-Life game with a menu theme already speaks for itself. I liked the image of Barney teleporting near the end, and that the credits music was my favourite Nuclear Mission Jam.
However I really disliked the fact that the HD models aren't just an option here.
The best and the only Co-op HL addon!!!
This mod is short, but realy fun to play. Just a bit dissapointed because no Save mode. Otherwise, It's awesome. Realy worth to play it :D
