Caught by the remaining Combine, Gordon Freeman must escape to rescue his imprisoned rebel allies. Aided by the resourceful Dawn and her insurgents, you are sprung from captivity in order to spearhead a staged breakout from the notorious Port Halen Prison. But before you can get there you must loose your Combine pursuers and make your way through a wilderness long since overrun by the zombified. Welcome to the hour of Dawn… Written, designed, and developed by Rage Crew, based on Valve’s excellent design. Half Life 2: Dawn was developed as a student project on the IT-University of Copenhagen in 2006. It took us, a group of five game and level designers, around two months to get it all together, bringing you around one hour of game play. Enjoy! Download here!

Extremely well done.

Janky intro... where did my HEV suit come from? Unclear direction has me trying to run up the train ramp, opposite the direction I was supposed to go, all the while I'm being shredded by bullets.

Reflections were messed up, resulting in glowing white background objects. The scenery looked like it looked great. Hopefully it was for people playing this when it first came out.

Random metrocops just standing in bodies of water, sometimes fully submerged. Got stuck a few times. Missed loading zones and ended up in Source purgatory. Graphics clipping. Super buggy.

Sparse, prop-less environments early on. It's like the modder got better as he built this mod.

But holy **** that balcony collapse as you're admiring the scenery? That got me. Haven't been jumpscared like that in some time when playing Half-Life mods.

Some nice explosive barrel scripting. Thrilling and satisfying. Scripting in general was just POW after POW with a lot of moments that made me physically recoil in my chair. Intense, scary, and self-reflective. Wide range of emotions.

I quite enjoyed the graveyard. Oddly serene with the birds chirping, midnight lighting, and muffled zombie moans in the background.

Voice acting wasn't half bad! Some real effort was put into this mod.

Man, feels like the game would be a lot more spooky if all the enemies and hazards weren't lit up clear as day from this lighting glitch.

Innovative traps that are fun to deploy.

Creative, but often nonsensical environments. Like, what kind of hospital has all these endless door-less corridors? But if we're on the subject of creativity... the ambushes were great. Always surprised me, but never felt unfair. Probably because areas were a hair too open. Less clumsy or swarmy enemy placement would greatly improve on how good the ideas are. Always felt challenged, but never overwhelmed. Basically, the game was easy, but still tense.

Boy, did this mod improve as it progressed. Some areas may have been a bit unpolished, but it achieved goals in atmosphere, scripting, and effort. Despite its flaws, Dawn is a fun Ravenholm romp.

Almost didn't play it based on the low rating. Usually mods in the 7s get a bit hairy with drastic, polarizing levels in quality. Quality-wise it would deserve an 8/10, but I can see why the rough edges would net a 7/10. But in my case, the unique ideas on display actually bump it up to a 9/10.

Not a bad generic half-life 2 mod, though a short one. The map design was simple and the fights were easy, but it was fun to play. Also, nice voice acting.

Short, but long for your average mod. I had no complaints, and the swamp/scary hospital scenes were amazing.
