For Installation Guide, click 'Read more...' Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Succession Wars version 0.8.2 includes many new features and content to bring the atmosphere of Enroth even closer. Notable improvements include siege walls and towers for the six H2 classes, H2 spell animations for Cold Ray, Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Armageddon. Town screens have been significantly improved and there are 12 new maps to play. Furthermore this release includes music packs with H2 themes from both SW, PoL, MIDI soundtrack and a special Heroes Orchestra music pack with H2 themes performed by the amazing orchestra!!

The maps by Khimmel Otakov seem to be bugging out for me after they ask if I want to "WoGify the map". Weird stuff happens whether I say yes or no. The others are fantastic though - great addition!

Is it possible to play online somehow? I would really love to play against my brother using different computers
It is possible. You can try using H3SW and then install HD mod on top. The most important thing is that you both have the same versions :)
Do we have to share the network or we can play form our homes? We have been playing this game since it was released but never been able to play on different computers. We no longer live together and this would be a dream come true.
Please instruct me on the steps to follow, I would really appreciate it.
I can't give your the steps in detail as I actually haven't done this myself, but you could give GameRanger a try: Gameranger.com
Again, just make sure you got the same version of H3SW running and I believe it should work.
It was always possible to play H3 online via direct IP connection, but it can be slightly involved because port forwarding is needed if you're behind a router, you can probably find instructions how to do this for your type of router online. 47624 UDP+TCP, 2300-2400 UDP+TCP are the required ports. Then just find out the host's IPv4 via whatismyipaddress or something and join that ingame. Unfortunately that IPv4 must be unique which can be an issue nowadays, might have to contact your ISP about that.
There's also Hamachi (LAN tunneling software that was always used a lot by the community) or indeed Gameranger. Oh, and DirectPlay which is an old deprecated DirectX component also must be installed, which may or may not be troublesome on newer Windows versions.
Finally for the Horn of the Abyss mod there's the online lobby that everybody has been using for years now...
HD mod throws an error stating to launch "HD3_Launcher.exe" first after installation (there is no such file). Game still does start though.
Yes, HD mod behaves a bit weird in regards to the mod, but it shouldn't influence the mod.

There is a serious problem with autosaves - game complains about not being able to write to autosave.gm1 and the game can only be continued after removing this in task manager. Even running with admin rights didn't help.

I was able to install correctly I believe to ubi soft. It showed the install finished, it looked liked it took me to command prompt real quick and then went away. where can i find the application folder and what is the name, is there a tutorial?
Did you know which folder you installed H3SW to? It should show up in the same folder.
I was able to find the file, I installed in Ubisoft first then installed in the heroes of might and magic 3 HD edition. so maybe the hd edition was the problem and how do i fix that or install differently? and now I was able to find the h3sw application in the ubisoft folder but when I try to run the program it says system error, "the code execution cannot proceed because mss32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may xig this problem." I reinstalled and still the same problem. Also i cant find a uninstall file
Heroes 3 HD Edition is not compatible with the mod.
What you need is Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete Edition, or Heroes of Might and Magic III: Shadow of Death (developer: New World Computing, publisher: 3DO)
Recent H3HD from Ubisoft is technically a different game, it doesn't even include all vanilla material.
The game you need to get is not present in Steam. It can be purchased from Good Old Games, as one of the options.

Okay, figured out the autosave issue - had to create the "games" folder manually in main directory.
Good you found a solution - I just don't understand why there wasn't a "Games" folder in your H3 directory.
Finally! What's left to do to reach 1.0?
Witch castle will need to be completely redone, we still need campaign from both SW and PoL and a lot of other stuff, but slow and steady you know :))

Hi, when I try to run app there are two announcements; first: The code execution cannot continue because the object mss32.dll was not found and second is similar, about binkw23.dll. I have the heroes 3 complete version from gog.
Did you install H3SW v0.8.2 on top of a clean version of Heroes 3 complete? The folder cannot have HotA, WoG, ERA or most other mods installed already.

how do I install a clean version? I have heroes for steam and bought it from ubisoft as well
See the answer above. You cannot play H3SW if you got the HoMM III HD Edition from Ubisoft. You need the original (and way better) edition from GOG: Gog.com

Is there any balance of game in v0.8.2?
Depends on what you call "balance". The game was just as playable as Heroes 2 even in previous updates. Regarding its eligibility for competitive play - well, it's a long, if not impossible way to go.

I installed the mod on a fresh version of H3 without any mods. The mod works but it runs for a while and crashes on the main screen. i.imgur.com/mNFUwum.png

Just a minor thing, in Warlock town's castle screen the Red Tower is still being shown even when the Black Tower is already built.
Yes, that is a known bug, however it does impact gameplay :)
Yes, however I actually just encountered a serious bug also related to dragons: apparently you can get Red Dragons by only building Green Tower!
This is specifically possible with the "buy all units" button. The monster icon shows a Green Dragon, yet the text underneath says Red Dragon. All other unit buying methods besides that button (castle, dwelling, dragon icon) do correctly offer a Green Dragon though.
Please see if you can reproduce this one (I guess that button might be only in the HD mod).
I am aware of this issue and it is due to how HD mod has been constructed as it expects only one upgrade for each creature opposed to our dragon which of course can be upgraded twice. Hopefully we will be able to fix this.
