GTR: Rolling Thunder mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

GTR: Rolling Thunder is the first in a possible series of modifications for the GTA San Andreas Engine. It is essentially a racing modification finding its gameplay at home in the middle of Need For Speed and Gran Turismo.

This installment is set in Southeast Asia in a fictional recreation of Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. There is 4 main cities (Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City) and stretches of countryside, jungle, mountains and sea between them. There is a new protagonist (Name TBA) and a whole new storyline revolving around him and his time in the east.

There are 52 vehicles to choose from, taken from all over the GTA Universe with entrants from Vice City, Liberty City, San Andreas and Myriad Islands and also some unique to this modification. All of these cars will be thoroughly moddable with custom rims, bodykits, spoilers, bonnets/hoods, windows, paintjobs, neons and more. You will then get to tear it up in your new ride all across the streets and tracks, all tailor made to be raced.

Aside from the driving there will still be everything you have come to expect from a GTA game; guns, crime, etc to keep you entertained. This mod will also include all of the little luxuries you have grown to love from San Andreas, like haircuts, clothes, tattoos, fatness and more. However as a GTR modification there are some major differences between this and the GTA titles where I finds its platform. Firstly traffic around the map will reduced to the most undesirable vehicles, making you less inclined to steal peoples transport, though there will be car manufacturers garages all around the map where you will be able to buy a performance vehicle. As these cars will be based on real world prices it makes it a milestone in the game to have bought yourself a new car.

Unlike Need for Speed however your cars will not be totally indestructible. Though the damage parts are removed and your cars are much tougher than before they will eventually start to smoke and with enough damage, explode. To avoid this happening you have to take your car to a Mechanic for it to be fixed, you may even have to duck out of a race half way through and do so to avoid losing your super car. The manufacturer’s garages are also available for purchase later in the game, giving you the option of a free car if necessary.
