This little project is a follow up to a map I made back in 2001 called Freeman's Escape. It was very short and plain and was originally reviewed on Tenfourmaps. During the pandemic I got back into mapping for HL1 and this is the result. I thought I'd re-do my whole idea from scratch and pack it full of details this time. The result is a short but sweet 3-map HL1 adventure that plays off the alternative-timeline concept of Gordon Freeman having somehow escaped the G-Man's forced offer of employment and teleported back to the outskirts of Black Mesa, where he must run, think and shoot his way to freedom. It's almost done and ready for release. I started building this just for fun and my own enjoyment but now I feel it would be a shame not to share it. I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did building it.

Below are some screenshots for your viewing pleasure. These shots were taken a year ago and more details have been added since. I am almost done and intend to release Version 1.0 very soon. Again, this is just a small for-fun project that I've decided to share with the community. Feel free to post comments, negative or positive, feedback is always good to hear.

Really fun maps. I actually made a playthrough of it on YouTube (my first ever!).
I liked the length and that they were packed with interesting encounters. Link to video - Youtu.be

Overall it was a blast, but enemy placement could use a touch-up.
For example, I don't find it fun when you've put headcrabs behind doors ready to lunge at my face, especially in the first minutes of the map. The lack of armor and small health supply, coupled with a minute arsenal, really felt like an unfair challenge. Those headcrabs were awfully quiet and I found myself relying less on my actual skill and more on memorization of enemy placement. Later on it wasn't really as bad, since the grunts have chatter to give you a heads up, and the Controllers teleporting in was a good "Oh ****!" moment (I had the same reaction when I broke one of the boxes in the loading bay area thing and was met with a Bullsquid). Another note, and I don't know if it was a bug in Half-Life itself or what, but a grunt in a tower 'naded himself. It was funny, but it's likely to happen for other people.
I really did like it though, and the teleportation opening gives you a lot of freedom if you ever feel like expanding on this idea.

Apologies for the delay in responding - thank you for your honest feedback! Haha, I did go a little heavy on the headcrabs. They're my favorite enemy as you can be so devious with their placement. However, deviousness can give way to unfairness if overused, so I will take your comment into consideration. :)

Yup, I first bought Half-Life in 1998 when it came out. I had no idea it would become a lifelong obsession! Still my all-time favourite game.
