Fraction - what is it about?
Fraction is WW3 aftermath mod for Crysis. We are aiming for a story based on real-world events and technologies, a narrative that shows horrors of war, critical views on war, and of course, entertaining, in your face, kick-ass gameplay. It has story pieces from Twilight 2000 and Cyberpunk 2020 (old pen and paper roleplaying games), as well as drawing inspiration from Metal Gear Solid, Fallout and couple of movies. Dramatic storyline with twists and shocking moments, black humor, credible dialogue. Year is around 2027 and WW3 about to end, since there are no longer goverments to negotiate about war or peace. Now world is ruined and you are middle of it all, trying to survive just like everybody else.

Background info - short version
The world of Fraction is a what-if scenario: what if the world economy started to collapse and as a result of privatization and the acceleration of war as a business? In our world, the power of corporations increased tremendously and PMCs became an indespensible part of restoring the economy. War became a product; war became essential. Societies became dependant on conflict so they let all kind of laws pass, ones that discriminated against social groups, religious groups, and economic status in order to keep the war machine alive. Finally natural resources, such as water, were running low, and then states began to mind their own interests only. Soon the PMCs and the corporations began to engage each other in proxy. The blood spilled into government, however, and like water building up behind a dam, things bursted out of control. If life before the war was hell, World War III was worse.

Situation Now - Summary
In a word, desperate. In two, utterly hopeless. In an acronym, FUBAR.

You were part of an American army division that was ordered to advance into Russia, take over Belarus--- and that's as far as we can go without spoilers. Your journey went pretty well but then Russians and Polish rebels threw everything at you. That night was called the "Inferno", and as your division headquarters were overrun your last order from your CO was "You are on your own, good luck---"

After the night you and your friends were retreating as fast as possible. First days after the incident were really chaotic,air waves were full of radio broadcasts, some of them were regroup orders. Soon they all ended up being frantic calls of help from units surrounded and being overrun. You have been traveling by night and hid by day, it has been quite awhile since you have met another living being.

Now you have had your first good night's sleep in several days, its time to decide what to do next...

Gameplay and features
Fraction is FPS with RPG elements such as dialogue, relatively open-ended gameplay, skills and statistics. We aim for relatively realistic health and gunplay system that promotes caution and taking cover over crazy gunplay. Replay value is going to be higher than normally in FPS games, quests/missions have more endings, dialogue is plentiful, story is given in such form that there is new stuff to find Wink .

- gore that doesn't go too overboard

- new hud
- map and overview map stuff (just like in fallout 1&2 or jagged alliance 2 )
- random encounters
- new weapons and equipment

What next - Nightbreak
Fraction is going to be episodic mod, with each episode constituting a single country, but the first thing team is going to do is the Demo. The Demo serves the purpose of being a "proof-of-concept", so team can get their head around world of Fraction, get know each other and get feedback from the community. The demo, dubbed Nightbreak, has some of the features of the Fraction Episode 1 such as enchanced camouflage, enhanced AI, new hud, new weapons, breakdown & maintenance system.
