The Firefight Project: A Gameplay Experiment in Source Project Goals: The primary goal of this project is, natrually, to produce a game where firefights are the prominent gameplay dynamic. That is, create a mod where player's reflexes are not so importaint as manuvering and using tactics to eliminate opposing players. This project is dedicated to creating sustained fights (a real battle; an exchange between opposing players) that are exciting and tense. The best moments in games are when you don't die right away, and have to struggle to both survive and eliminate. That sort of dynamic/situation is at the heart of this project. Theory: As was stated in "Project Goals" above, this project is focused on producing a game where players struggle to survive and eliminate opposing players. We intend to do so by designing everything in the game around the following core dynamics: - Usefullness of Cover Cover must be both a usefull and integral part of the game. - Manuvering/Tactics...

We have decided to put up a "Works In Progress" section on the site and forums . It will showcase some of the work we've been doing, while not representing the finalized product. I've posted renders of the improved M4A1 and the AK-101 on the site. Enjoy.

woho :)
i love that you guys are making progress.
although, i was a little surprised with the conventional weaponry.
since you are making a mod about firefights, why not design your own weapons with
more pronounced qualities and just a little resembelance to conventional firearms. making everything realistic is hard, i imagine.

Thanks, I'm glad you're enthusiastic about the project. About the weaponry... we considered making this mod in a sort of "sci-fi" setting, but we tossed that out for various reasons, not the least of which is the fact that we are fond of the modern combat setting. The use of particularly conventional weaponry (the M4A1, and not a variant), is due to the game design, which would make such things somewhat superfluous.

Despite the conventional weaponry, I assure you the gameplay will not suffer. Things will stay in the realm of reality of course, but don't confuse that with an effort to make this another "realism" mod. The weapons will function as you might expect, but their properties and the systems behind their use are what we are counting on as the core of this project, and the workhorse behind the firefight dynamic.
