Fall of Kobol is a total-conversion modification for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion featuring Battlestar Galactica: Colonial and Cylons.
I get asked a lot if I'll improve the textures or quality of the models in FoK. Unfortunately it's hard for people who don't know the history of the mod to understand where BSG was in Sins before I took over the assets and made a new BSG mod. One of the enhancements I made was to add back in the missing turrets on Colonial Battlestars. The original reason for no turrets was of course to limit the poly count of the models due to image limitations from previous games or perceived limitations with Sins. Frankly a battlestar with no turrets was not any fun so I tasked out with restoring them to their original glory.
That said the turrets do make up 3/4's of the poly count on the Pegasus and with plans to add a few more variations of Coxxon's Pegasus model I needed a solution to reduce that count down some as I plan to have more of these units bantering around. Here is my first attempt at reducing the 1000 triangle count turret to a more manageable poly count.
Nice!
****, I didn't mean to dislike this comment! Moddb's stupid system means I can't change it.
Sorry buddy...
The reduction looks great!
For me, models and textures are great. It's the sounds that are bugging me. When a Battlestar fires, it sounds like someone is shooting an AK47 and things like that. You better spend time working on those then on on improving models and textures that are already amazing :P
This isn't texture work which I already did for every model in the mod. All original assets had damaged or no textures. I had to find the original texture which mostly only worked for Coxxon's fleet, reuvmap to similar textures or paint my own like the alberio. This is optimization so i can add some more high quality battlestars in to the mod. And I assume you are talking about the flak guns... Find a better sound I can use and I would plug it in. Most the improvements like this in this mod come from the community.
I really love to see that this mod is still being worked on! It already looks nice but more improvements are always amazing!
