What is Elite Force?

The two Elite Force Games, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force and Star Trek: Elite Force 2, relate the story of Alex Munro, the player, and the Hazard Team as they try to save the galaxy.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force gives the player the story of the creation of the Hazard Team, instituted by Captain Kathryn Janeway to go on away missions that are too dangerous for regular crew members. Soon after its creation the team is thrust into action when the ship is captured by The Forge, a giant space station bent on conquering the galaxy. The team, led by Lieutenant Foster (until he is assimilated by the Borg), manages to save the ship and destroy the Forge, releasing all of the entrapped ships.

Star Trek: Elite Force 2 continues where the original left off, and begins with a mission aboard the Borg Sphere from “Endgame,” with the Hazard Team, now lead by Lieutenant Munro, attempting to free the ship before the sphere exits the transwarp conduit. The team is then broken up and reassigned to various positions throughout the Federation. Several months later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard revives the Hazard Team and takes them with him on his mission to rescue the U.S.S. Dallas. The crew of the Enterprise is then thrown into battle against a new, mysterious foe that ends with a surprising twist!

What is Elite Force: Total Conversion (EF: TC)?

Elite Force: Total Conversion (a.k.a. Elite Force 3) is a modification for the game Half-Life 2. It is a sequel to the two previous Elite Force games. It will include both Single Player and Multiplayer game types. The unique feature of EF: TC is that it is not being released by a dedicated gaming company but instead is a game designed, programmed, and released by the Elite Force community.

Why not waiting for Paramount/Activision to do a real Elite Force 3 game?

Unfortunately, Activision has lost their license to publish Star Trek games and Star Trek gaming is largely tied up in the lawsuit. This means that there won't be any new Star Trek games (aside from Star Trek: Online) for at least three to four years, if not longer. The possibility of seeing a sequel to the Elite Force 2 game within five years is close to none. So we the members of the Elite Force community have decided to make it.

Why the Half-Life 2 engine?

The Half-Life 2 engine provides an amazing physics engine, crazy rendering quality, and the capacity to modify the game to our needs. Another benefit of building on Half-Life 2 is the HUGE Half-Life community that can help us.

Will we have to buy something to play EF: TC?

Yes. In order to play a mod for any game, you must first buy the original game, which in our case is Half-Life 2. Think of it as buying the next greatest hit, in addition to EF: TC and the many other Half-Life 2 mods that are already in the creation process.

Will Munro (male or female) still be in charge of the Hazard Team?

The Hazard Team has come back, but it will be an entirely new team. That means no Munro. However, another feature of the game is that the player is not restricted to playing one character. As the player progresses through the Single Player game, they will play the parts of several Starfleet crew members as well as most members of the Hazard Team.

What will the multiplayer be like? Will it be similar to EF1 or EF2?

After the deception of the Elite Force 2 multiplayer, we decided to make the EF: TC multiplayer as close to EF1 as possible. Of course, there will be new features, but we will generally have the physics and reload time of EF1. We will also have a "Simulation" mode that will bring the multiplayer as close to real physics as possible. For a good idea of what the Simulation mode will be like, take a look at the mods Urban Terror (http://www.urbanterror.net/) or True Combat (http://www.planetquake.com/q3t/content/index.asp). The multiplayer will feature classic modes like Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, but will also come with new modes like Bomb Diffusion, Objective-based maps, and a few surprises. The server host will also have the choice to enable normal spawning, like in EF1, wave spawning, queued spawning, or even round-based spawning.
