The Road to Edain 4.0: The Game Mode
Today, our update deals with a new feature that will included in Edain 4.0. From the start, it has been our intention to increase the diversity of the modification. And this feature is a huge step forward. Besides increasing the diversity, this feature allows the player to choose his individual game experience.
THE GAME MODE
In the last months, we asked ourselves the question, how to make the whole gaming experience morde individual and matchless. Also, we wanted to help fans, who have problems with changes in the balance, like the weakening of all heroes. The BfME I building mode offers many new possibilities, which we used for the new feature.
In version 4.0, we have made some basic changes in the skirmish menu. Thus, there will be no possibility to change the ingame CP, but the player is able to choose a “Game Modus”, offering different modi. So, the player can fight more epic battles, command legendary heroes or try the complete new conquest modus:
The current CP-settings might be an interesting system, but in fact, most of the players only used normal, double or maximum CP. We included these settings in 3 of the 7 game-modi, so no gaming experience will be lost.
These are all the available game-modi:
- Epic Battle -> 10-times as much Commandpoints and 30% faster production of units and ressources
- Battle -> Double Commandpoints
- Skirmish (standard setting)
- Legendary Heroes -> Heroes deal more damage and have got more armor.
- Exploration -> The map is shrouded from the beginning, so the player has to explore it.
- Victory Points -> The player or his team has to capture and hold more than half of all outposts for 10 minutes, to win the game.
- Conquest -> The player or his team has to capture and hold more than half of all settlements for 5 minutes, to win the game.
Therefore, the player is able to influence the game experience in the way he prefers it. Especially, Victory Points and Conquest are two modi, offering a completely different system. Fans, who prefer to play with more mighty heroes, are able to choose the game mode Legendary Heroes.
Of course, we are open to change requests or even to replace one of the modes, but we are limited to 7 modi.
Those, who look closely at the update, will notice that we agreed on a new CP-system, which has been positively received by our tester. More information will be in another update.

will we see also an update concerning the WAr of the Ring mode?
Probably not. The War of the Ring will not be much changed, as far as it works.
well, will we at least see the full list of regions from the book? vanilla game is missing a lot of them.

Yup, looks promising. Though I'm not sure if the faster production in epic mode is necessary. It doesn't hurt either, but 30% seems a bit much to me.
But maybe it's just personal preference, since I actually like my battles to drag on for a while.
The Epic Battle game mode is definitely something interesting. Keep up the good work guys.

this is magnificent just two question should we desire to play just a completely normal game will that be possible ? and since for those games cp is very low and with no way of raising it I suppose units like the orc horde won't be 20 cp anymore
Yes, the skirmish mode is the normal game, as well as the battle mode which is the same with double CP.
This is definitely interesting. the idea to bring Victory Points to BFME is really genius!
a question though; in standard mode the CP is just 200!?

The CP system is not finished yet, so I can't say anything definite. But the player has a start CP limit, which he can increase.
I have a problem with my savegames, are there any special places i should post it?
it's because you're playing Lothlorian or some other player do.
saves with Lothlorian tend to crash, so make sure that there's no Lothlorian player in your game and it will save and work properly.

I really like this change you made to the original game. I do have a suggestion for a modus, though.
What about a 'Siege' modus?
In which your walls and attachments to those walls are stronger but you are unable to conquer other settlements, so you have a limited number of resources and troops, and you have to last for like half an hour, or an hour?
I would definitely would like to play that.
I wish I could upvote this twice! :P I'm mainly a defensive player, and love playing the maps where you have to defend like Minas Tirith or the Hornburg. So this mode would be awesome to me.
that won't work because first what if you were playing evil (no walls)??
second the new system is designed around the idea of settlements, so "no settlements" = "no versatility".
and in order to make you truly under siege, the AI is needed to be programmed for every map (in other words; make a custom mission in every map) and that's an unbelievably HUGE feat that I doubt the team would ever even attempt it :/
lastly there's the fortresses maps (MinasTirith, HelmsDeep,..etc) where you can play it defensively, and you can find most good custom missions in those maps. :)
Yes, we have discussed a siege modus ourselves. Much more armor for all structures and far cheaper siege engines.
But which modus should he deleted for it?
I think the Exploration modus has the least practicality. That would be my choice to be replaced. The maps aren't randomly generated, so having to explore doesn't -really- change much. Play the map once and you know where everything is just about.
Personally I think you might delete either 'Victory Points' or 'Conquest'. These modi are quite similar, so perhaps you can mold them into 1 modus, thus granting an extra spot for some kind of Siege modus?
Just a suggestion for the Exploration Mode: maybe it could be better if settlements and outposts are not showed on both the map and the minimap, just like it was in BFME 1. That would make a real "exploration" feeling, imo
Also, I agree with Glemli about the "Siege" mod
In BfME 1 the settlements are marked directly on the mini-map, but that would mean for us to redraw every mini-map and redraw it again, when we change the place of the settlements, which is far too much work.
So, the settlements are shown on the mini-map by a different system, one which can't e negotiated in Exploration-mode
Ok, I understood. What about if rather hiding them on the map? I mean, on black areas, you won't see anything else but black terrain, even if in that place there's a settlement/outpost

Actually, I think that the way you took is quite nice but seriously lacks of combination possibilities.
It is technically not possible to combine those systems and it is also not possible to add more modes. At least this is our current state, perhaps something will change about that in the future, but at the moment it is technically for us impossible.
Arf, sad. But I still think that faster production in epic battle mod is not a good idea.

I also have a question about the design of one of the new heroes.
I think Balin is based on an Orc hero? (It looks similar when he's fighting.)
Would it also be an idea to base him on the Elf that is practicing next to the Rivendel barracks/Bruchtal-Kaserne?
That Elf swings his sword in a lot of moves around, which made me think more of Balin, certainly when I see this:

Balin uses the animation of Dain, which are very dwarfish animations.
The animations of the practicing elf are only idle animations, there are nearly all of the animations missing. Also, even if he uses the same way to fight, he has got a completly different appearance, the way dwarves walk and elves walk.

Hey Edain team i have one qeustion, i have played the edain mod 3.8.1 but id ont like the language because i am dutch :P so i am waiting on the edain mod 4.0 my question is when do you link the edain 4.0 mod because i have no good mod for rotwk please let me no i am big fan of BFME 1 2 3, LOTR, The HOBBIT etc so please comment my name is Mithrandir333
No there's no link because Edain 4 is still not finished yet.
However you can google for the unofficial english patch.

Ok, the "the game mode" thing is just a title for this news update about the upcoming Edain 4.0
Anyway no one really know when it will be released, not even the devs.

I have one question.
Will I be able to install and play the SEE-Dc(Nazgul's creation) if in my PC is also installed the edain mod?
There is, like having the two games in the same computer and play both (not at the same time, of course)?
If the SEE-Dc works like a different expansion, does it interfere with edain mode 4.0?

The SEE should work with edain, as it doesn't change anything with the game files. Other mods (which are instlaled directly in the game folder) should course problems.
But I'm not completely sure, you have to test it.^^

No, you don't have to delete 3.8.1 - our installer will replace all of the old files with the new ones. And we will make it as easy as possible for our users to select the language of the mod - probably there will just be a field in the installer where you can choose between english and german. :)

Just a deeper thought on this since I am the one who makes the installer and launcher: my plan is that the installer installs both languages, You can then choose in the launcher which one You prefer.
