Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) is a mod for the game "Men of War" and some of its successors that randomly generates skirmish missions and lets you keep your surviving forces from one battle to another. Some people find this mod tricky to install the first time - please read the readme.txt carefully and ask for help (if you need it) on our forums here on this site, or at the game developer's site.

Hello,

Let me start by saying that this mod is amazing in premise and execution, and I really appreciate all the work y'all must have put into it! The ability to play a dynamic campaign is a feature this series desperately needs, and I love the idea of building a force of hardened veterans battle by battle. That brings me to my reason for posting, actually, because I can't seem to ever get that force built. I downloaded this mod some years back and was really excited about it, but I found the difficulty way too high and gave up on it after getting the snot kicked out of me many times in the first battle. I decided to try it out again recently and saw that there were ways to lower the difficulty in the initial setup. That made me excited all over again, so I started a new campaign with the extra starting points and the lowest difficulty settings. The first mission was great, and I thought I was off to a good start, but the second mission was impossible, so I reloaded and tried a different build and a different mission. That one was a major bloodbath, and I barely pulled off a win after tons and tons of loading and saving. In the third mission, I find my still embryonic and weakened force facing waves of tanks that are blowing through my forces like wind through a screen.

It seems that no matter what I do, the difficulty and opposing forces ramp up exponentially and immediately, and I can't build a strong enough force fast enough to keep pace, much less win. I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing, or if there is a guide to succeeding with this mod. I'm sure I'm no expert player, but I don't think my poor skill level is the only factor here. I love the premise of this mod, but it is nigh unplayable for me at the moment, and certainly not much fun. I would very much like to see some further controls to lower difficulty and manage what the enemy throws at you.

If you win battle after battle, the enemy forces will be stronger and stronger. If you lose a battle (by saving and ending the battle), the enemy forces will be less strong.

Another way of making it easier for you is to play with fog of war set to Off.

Hello Zeke, thanks for the response. I find that if I lose a battle, my forces are too battered and I have too few points to recover, and a death-spiral starts. I haven't tried playing with FOW turned off, but even with that, I can't imagine it would help my force with two infantry squads and one tank hold out against waves of tanks and armored cars.

zeke, I have been playing DCG for many many years and want to thank you for all the enjoyment and hours I have blown playing the game Men Of War. I just stumbled onto the thread describing operations and went into the operations folder and was amazed at the number in there. I started a new campaign selecting German and Africa 1941-1943 hoping some of those operations might show up. I cannot find them. Can you help? I see there is one labeled Kursk and would love to play it but it does not appear no matter which nation I select for the eastern front 1943-1945.

@ranger_bud, if you start a new campaign, as Germany (for example), and put the starting date as 4th of July 1943, then the Kursk campaign as Germany will begin. You can check these dates by simply open the corresponding file in the operation folder in DCG.

Happy to hear that you like the mod, not sure what will happen with the mod now when Gates of Hell has been released with a DCG similar thing built in from start. Men of War 2 has also been announced and it wouldnt suprise me if that game also comes with some kind of DCG lookalike.

And if certain modders would stop stealing our resources, I would happily release the Romanian addon that I have been working on, but as it is now, I do hesitate to release anything new.

@BentonGrey, if you "lose" the battle ASAP after you have started it, ie as soon as your units appear on the map, it will count as a loss and you will lose some of your points, but your force will be intact and the next battle should be against a less strong force. In some cases though, DCG will still try to make you mad and throw countless of tanks against you, but most often, you should see much less enemy armor.

I'm a bit late to the thread but I find slowing the game down is a necessity sometimes. Press the 'Backspace' key and you can select between five game speeds. I've been playing masterfully save scumming my way through early war 8x1 operations in order to build up my maximum force size. The slow motion has gotten me through some truly horrific battles. Well, slow motion and an 88mm cannon...

Other tips: Armour piercing shells will go through buildings, (German 88mm will go through two barn walls and hit a Mathilda turret hard enough to 'encourage' the crew to bail out) although you might need several shots if the building has solid internal walls. -- Use direct control for more accurate and precise aiming of life saving critical shots. -- Steal enemy equipment, especially artillery. -- Completely emptying a unit's inventory will reset the contents to their default for the next battle (a nice way to stockpile rare/enemy ammunition). -- Some things are worth more points if you sell rather than destroy them (repair them completely, put a soldier in, then sell/disband the unit after the battle. (Don't forget to remove the crew or you will sell them too). -- If an enemy vehicle is still showing on the minimap as a yellow triangle then you probably won't get points for it as it hasn't registered as being 'knocked out'. AT grenades will usually do the trick, but sometimes you need dynamite. -- Tracking a tank and preventing it from advancing can be a lifesaver if it is still beyond it's weapon range. -- Put heavily armoured vehicles up front (my second encounter with Mathildas involved at least five enemy Mathildas bouncing shots off my single captured Mathilda while I aimed heavy artillery shells onto their turret roofs)

@zekewolff This is a great mod. I picked up Gates of Hell during the Steam summer sale, and I found it's dynamic campaign to be disappointing in comparison to DCG

did not know about the armor piercing shell through buildings, that's a new tip, did use buildings as cover, i remember a brutal campaign start on africa with italians troops vs Uk, and a Hex fortress map was the chosen map, the map had mines everywhere and a literal two hexagonal walls upfront lol, had no mortar or arty as i began with the standart armor/troops, had to save scum plenty lol, will try the enemy stock ammo program, ty for the tips
