Dino D-Day is an exciting new First Person Shooter from 800 North (AKA Digital Ranch Interactive). This is an HL2:OB mod that has served as a prototype for a commercial release we are currently in the final stages of preparing. It is playable though we have not been supporting it for several months as we've focused all of our efforts on the commercial product. The commercial release is slated for March 1, 2011 only on Steam. It is a fast-paced multiplayer game with 12 playable classes including 3 dinosaurs. You've played World War II games...but have you played a World War II game with dinosaurs?

Hey first off, I'd like to congratulate you guys on making a mod that has dinosaurs in it and for being the first to actually release one, Jurassic Life is still working on theirs, there was a Dino Crisis 2 mod in the works its sorta went on hiatus, but anyways back on topic, this was superb granted it was only one level, which I look forward to the continuation (if you guys do continue it)
I have a couple of questions for you guys, hopefully there not too big.

  • Will there be sometime down the road a multi-player aspect (i.e. co-op or firefight(thank you ODST for making that more known)
  • Will there be any off topic dinosaurs that will be revealed (i.e. Plateosaurus or Procompsognathus (discovered in Germany, great tie in)
  • Also will you guys release some wallpapers from your concept art? You may have noticed I commented on one.
  • Do you guys have any tips for any of the other mods out there that are developing dinosaur related content for their own mods?

Keep up the great work guys, you have done something truly noteworthy.

Hey JPC,

Thanks for the feedback! Let me answer your questions:

1) We're working on a multiplayer version right now (it's really rough, not ready for the public yet). And I think it's pretty clear that people want this game to be Co-op. I'll be giving that a lot of thought in the coming weeks. The only reason that its singleplayer is that the beginning of this was such a difficult learning process for me (as a programmer) I needed to start with something fairly simple. But the good news is I'm a lot better now...and I LOVE Co-op games.

2) I love obscure dinosaurs. And we'll endeavor to make all the dinosaurs in Dino D-Day as accurate as possible. I can't wait to introduce some more obscure ones though initially we'll obviously lean towards the famous ones.

3) Wallpaper...BRILLIANT. We'll work on some today. Hopefully get some out to y'all soon...

4) After things settle down (juggling a lot of things right now) I'll make a point of writing up a few tips and tricks we used on the dinos.

Will you add ironsights? Please do, it feels kinda ridiculous to fire the USA rifle without them..
Also, higher the damage for headshots a bit?
Otherwise, nice mod :)

Initially, I poo-pooed ironsights because I never used them in DoD or anything. I never wanted to sacrifice my freedom of movement for a slightly more accurate shot. But honestly, as we've progressed on the game I've been thinking a lot more about that feature. I think it might need to make it's way into the game sometime soon...

Thank you god. Every time I had a decent ranged shot at one of the Nazi/a rapter, I would end up flailing around, melee'ing air instinctively trying to bring up the ironsights. It's my only real 'complaint' with the mod in its current state.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I can identify that dino...it's a rather early version of our Utahraptor. There's no close-ups or screenshots because we're not quite finished with the model. The proxy model looked fine for the the quick shot of it in the trailer but it's not ready for a close-up. As you can see he's a bigger version of the raptor and he'll have more specialized attacks one of which, you can see in the trailer, is picking up smaller raptors and throwing them. Once we get him more finished we'll get screenshots and all that out!

Ok, just played your demo, and i was extremely impressed by the atmosphere the game had. By the looks of the trailer, i thought of CoD1 or 2, and playing it actually confirmed this. Furthermore, your dinosaurs' animations were quite astonishing.

On the other hand, there were some minor problems i've been facing:
- Seeing those small dinos sometimes running through walls
- after switching from MP40 to M1 Garand while reloading the MP40, i stopped hearing the reload-sound from the MP.

But, after all, great fun for 20 Minutes.
