Preview: Settlement Models - Part 3

~~~~ Orc Castles ~~~~
The Orcs of the Misty Mountains and Mordor get some new castles. Dark, grubby and evil, just how an Orc likes it, furnished with life's necessities: filthy tents, troll cages, dungeons, pits and spikes wherever is (or not) appropriate.
Motte & Bailey
With only two of these in the mod, these will be rarely seen. Captured by the Orcs some time in the past, they were originally built by some nameless tribes of Men in the Misty Mountains and much of their architecture remains. Years of Orcish squalor have made them a place to call home.
Withwnar will be happy to hear you think so, guys ^^
(a leap away from the generic Medieval 2-castles settlements in the base game, from an immersion perspective)
It's nice to know you're not going with that restricted construction the DaC team have going on. It's super frustrating at times.
We never fancied that design choice either, no, and anyhow no more or less valid lore arguments motivate it in our era.
Well, there is one partial exception, and that's the Orcs of the Misty Mountains [OMM], hehe.
They can construct all levels of military settlements, as seen above, but may not construct larger civil settlements than Large Towns, unless those are "caverns" (a uniqe DCI feature that we may explain in a future preview; examples are Goblin Town, Mt Gundabad and Erebor). They may construct all buildings if they capture cities, but OMM have a uniqe feature that decrease the need for larger civil settlements.
OMM can recruit all their generic units in buildings a level lower than other factions. This goes hand in hand with the "units through achivments"-system they have (see front page reply to IgnatiosKanelos from yesterday). Call it an overall "more war, less civil administration" policy of the mountain tribes, haha.
Also, it means, when you play Khazad-dûm or the Silvan nations, the goblins are no push overs, but will prove a savage threat... ^^
Absolutely perfect. I always felt that the Orcs of the misty mountains were nothing more than bloody grease for my war machine to get my units xp up. Nice to see they're getting some much deserved love.
Snagas as arrow fodder and goblins as meat bags - that's how Orcs spell victory!
(they're all illiterate, that much can be concluded)
The spikes top of the towers look absolutely perfect on the Castles/Fortresses!
I wouldn't mind to see more of them on the settlements.
Nice work guys :)
Anyway I'm off to wipe the drool out of my chin.
