One does not simply grind for 4500 hours to unlock all heroes

No, you might be right... EA better increase the price on the loot boxes ASAP!

Yeah, except that it only took like five or six hours to unlock all of them.

After public opinon forced them to drop costs for key characters with 75%, you're meaning?
Not even EA tried to deny the calculations that initiated the PR train wreck they got themselves into: Reddit.com
The game was intentionally systematised to incentivize spending.
Consumers and agencies forced their hands, EA shall not have credit.

I've played the game since day one, and never encountered this. The only point that heroes where that expensive was during the beta, and that was fixed. That's the point of a beta, to fix issues before the launch.

Read up on the whole affair and you'll find out that this was not a 'mistake' that was fixed from the beta. Some heroes were intended to take 40 hours to gain, and you can thank player outcries for that you have not suffered that in the release.
This was a greedy design plan that the consumers said "hell no" to, which forced EA to redesign in panic, like nerfing point criteria and dropping microtransactions; even Disney went in and pulled their ear.
That is not the same thing as fixing a bug or rebalancing a flaw, even if they tried to save face saying so.

The Deluxe Digital Exclusive Dark Lord Edition? A just choice, my liege.
DDEDLE includes valuable content such as:
- original concept art (stick figures. by me. in Paint)
- nine uniqe versions of Snaga Skirmishers
- and do not forget Barad-dûr, that we just removed from the day one "Custom settlement models"-DLC (included for free when preorder)!

It also comes with a real Ring to enjoy: Mgatour.com

Indeed, i hesitated with the Golden Mithril Gorgoroth Edition, though i couldn't afford to pay it 200 bucks :)

Smart, the Golden Mithril Gorgoroth Edition is a scam. You get the concept art, the Ring, a discarded well worn mouse pad and even a bag of home baked lembas bread (disclaimer: do not contain actual lembas bread), but it do not include the game.

An truly splendid way to gain an surely enormous treasure hort for yourself. Be aware of the scaled kind though, they tend to steal things they neither deserve nor that they rightfully belong to them. Keep your axe ready and your very eyes open, for dark times may prevail soon.

Description

Hello payers... we mean players!

Together with our brand new buisness partner EA, proudly DCI:LA present *your* chance to grind campaigns to unlock the champions we have taken out of the game: Durin, Elrond, Isildur and all of the rest!

We offer the champions instead of visual content, because Tolkien Estate are lame; due to "lore" we can't offer a pink Sauron. So don't blame us, man.

Ofc, if you are someone who values you time and do not want to grind 8 campaigns for a single champion, you can always visit the store...
We have naturally *not* designed DCI for you to buy Dwarf-transactions out of plain fatigue. We *totally* do not expect you to. Promise.

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
