Questions or feedback? comment down below I check daily.

Myself and my project manager have decided to stay with the source engine. Although there is an excellent package called mfps on the unity asset store it doesn't feel or look like day of defeat. As of right now I'm currently working on improving my animation skills to make the 3 guns I have added into the game look right.(gewehr , trenchgun , panzerfaust)

This mod aims to add additional content to Day of defeat. Given the recent port to 2013 me(chapstic) and a game tester. There's a lot of work to be done so if you'd like to help please contact me via moddb or gamebanana.

This project is broken into mini projects because it encompasses many planned mods.
1. Project upscale : we are upscaling all the textures to 2k resolution rather than the 512 garbage og dod source is set at. -complete

2. Features : we are adding class mirror to the game . Every class will have a mirror with similar weapons. Currently they are server replicated

3. Project normals: High poly models will be baked into normals for use on the gun models. we are achieving this through marmoset : This has been canceled due to engine limitations we have decided that the effort is better spent adding features to the game

- wile coyote - base texture

4. Project Hud ; we are updating the heads up display.

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in this mod I wouldn't be here if there wasn't any interest in a updated day of defeat.

Why?
because I loved day of defeat when it was in its prime and feel that since it is possible why not?

What I have done so far:

We have managed to upscale all the textures from 512 resolution to 2k resolution with various results. The foliage looks a lot better but there's a lot to work to be done re scaling the textures in the texture control files to make the smaller textures that where upscaled to look proper ie not having bricks the size of buildings

Added two new weapons to the game:
we first add the panzer Faust which was its own custom class but it there was a syntax error in the code that caused other classes to break so we are re working it to see if that solves the issue. We are also changing the animation because you cant reload panzer Faust's you throw them away.

The second gun we added was the Gewehr 43 which still needs adjustment and it actually uses the m1 Garand base class but its it own separate entity if that makes sense.

Lastly we are adding normals and phong(reflection) to the weapons despite having only a small change in the overall look of the weapons I feel this is a much needed improvement

Thank you for reading see you in the future!

dear fans military conflict Vietnam has already achieved what we wanted to do with this mod. we are sad to say good bye but hopeful for the future as they have stated they wanted dod mode in their game. the next little while will be spent modding that game. this mod is dead out of the water.

I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to at least publish what you worked on and spent your time on. At the very least, it would be interesting to watch.

Pardon me, chaptastic. I really must apologize for raining on your parade, at a time like this, but I wish to let you know, that there is a *new* variant of the Source engine (I think), and that new variant is called "Source 2". Now, I had heard about this via a website for an upcoming game known as "s&box;". With this in mind, this new engine should be useful (if you should ever want to switch to a *new* variant of the Source engine, that is!). However, if you have no wish to make a transition to that new engine, then I understand.

Also, I already realize that this was asked beforehand (multiple times, I think), but is there an active Discord app that I can use (to ensure that I do not have to keep creating newer comments on ModDB)???

Again, I am sorry for asking such ridiculous questions, but I felt that I needed to get it off my chest. With that in mind, I wish to know. Thanks for your time in advance, chapstic. Carry on.

I regret to inform its no on both fronts. I trialed a discord and I just don't have time for people spinning in circles with questions and expectations for what this mod can achieve. There's also the headache of moderating. I don't think it would be fair for the 13 whole people that are interested in this to have to deal with the clown show that is dealing with a discord server. Source 2 sounds nice but I'm literally alone on this project rebuilding day of defeat source just isn't practical.

If you need to communicate leave a comment or message me either on here or game banana.

Updates:
1. I been given permission from most of the big name modders in the community to use their assets for this mod so the quality of this mod has taken a huge step forward.
2. The project is on hold for a month as I work on the metroidviania game jam on itch.io

Project normals has been canceled due to not achieving the result we wanted. The fact is source sdk 2013 is an aged engine and adding normals and updating the textures really had a miniscule effect.

Sorry to pester you, sir (or madame), but I can see, as of now, that you have managed to get the Gewehr 43 into this mod. Most excellent, I say! :D

Unfortunately—and I regret to say this—, there is one type of nitpick (which I apologize for pointing out, despite my hope of being constructive), and that one… is that the bolt’s handle (which—as I already know—CAN be pulled back during reloading) is on the wrong side (meaning, the bolt’s handle is placed on the side that would be prototypical for the Walther-made Gewehr 41, which was THE predecessor of this newly-added rifle).

Again, I am sorry if this annoys you, but I felt that I needed to get it off my chest and state my two-cents. Thanks for your time, in advance. Carry on.

np thanks for replying I love see them and this one made laugh! We are in early pre alpha stage at the moment . this is just too much work for one coder/3d artist and a game tester to tackle alone and get any sort of meaning full result consistently. However we will see if we can mirror that animation for you to make this arcade shooter more historically friendly.

Begging your pardon, chapstic, but that weapon that was just added in--recently--, is a Panzerfaust, NOT a Panzerschreck. Sorry.

However, since I had been informed (that is, a few days ago) that achievements are working (I am not sure if they are Steam-Achievements, so I need some clarification, if you do not mind), this might end up bringing a new question to mind: Will this project be released on Steam (that is, will this project have its own Store page therein, albeit requesting that the players--such as myself--own the original "Day of Defeat: Source", as was the case with the RealRTCW mod)???

So the question was will it have a store page: we are looking into this right now but probably not I honestly cant say its up to steam we haven't really gotten to that point yet. From my understanding it requires steam to play however and is considered a sdk 2013 mod.

2. this is not a stand alone mod this requires day of defeat source we have no plans on making this stand alone.

I'd like to add we've hit an snag in trying to host this server due to port forwarding rules on the hosts end. If anyone is willing to host for testing purpose let me know because the project cannot continue if we cannot test it.
