This project aims to recreate the levels and playing experience of the LucasArts game Dark Forces using the modern 3D engine found in the game Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy. We will be re-creating all 14 levels found in the original game and bringing them into the 21st century. Given the capabilities of the modified Quake 3 engine this project is very exciting indeed. Weapons, enemies and models will be re-created aswell as other features of the original game. Soon you'll be playing Dark Forces with gorgeous visuals, brilliant effects and fantastic playability! As Kyle Katarn, mercenary and agent of the Rebel Alliance, infiltrate the secret Imperial base to steal the plans for the Death Star and travel to distant locations as you track down clues to unravel the mystery of the Dark Trooper. Choose wisely from an arsenal of weapons including Bryar Pistol, Imperial Blaster, Thermal Detonator, Imperial Repeater, Fusion Cutter, Anti-personnel Mines, Mortar Gun, Concussion Rifle, and the Dark...
When I started the game right up, I just melted, straight up melted the song, the menu, it just blew me away. I could remember my first time playing DF just then, it was so beautiful...
When I started playing the actually game, after drooling on the menu, the look of falling down the shaft and the grate raising just brought goose bumps... the good kind. The music, the voices, the sounds, the map, it was all a flash back. A flashback to the good ol' days.
The music was something that I really adored, I loved the main theme of the Dark Forces game, and when I started playing the others games in the series, I wondered why they didn't bring that back in... it was disappointing, but I'm not here to talk about that. I really like the 8-BIT version of the soundtrack, the the real version just hit something inside of me that made me make the happiest sigh ever.
The sound design was really good. I mean, really good. It felt good to hear the doors, and the weapons, and everything. It's one of those sounds designs that never makes you tired, or dislike the sound. It's quite awesome.
The gameplay... one word, well two actually; "Classically Amazing". He literally recreated every nook and cranny in the original game, on to this mod. I loved the map design. It looks, and feels so much better than what the original game had to offer. It's just, it's hard to say how much I like it. Why did I choose the word "Classically"? Because back in the glory days of PC gaming, maps would actually reward you to explore, and I'm just glad that he added in those secrets.
I have pretty much been sugar coating with you favorite frosting, is there a downside? Yes, and I hate it the most the mod is dead! IT'S DEAD! And that really sucks. We, (we meaning the Dark Forces fan base) have been needing a mod like this! It's amazing what you did, but please! Hear our plea and come back!
You get a solid 10/10!
P.S. If you can't come back, thank you anyway (:
