Chell's Way to Home (archive version) file - CWTH mod for Portal

*THIS IS NOT MY MOD; IT BELONGS TO THE "Born in USSR" DEVELOPMENT TEAM.*

This is also the final version.

I have also created custom Steam artwork if you want to use it for your Steam library, and they are included in the archive. This is completely optional, and you don't need to use them for your library if you don't want to.

Installation Instructions

1) Download the mod on this page. If you get "Download Timeout", try downloading from the available mirrors.

2) Open the downloaded file with File Explorer, 7-Zip, or any other program that can open ZIP files.

2) Extract the "CWTH" folder to the sourcemods folder.

3) Restart Steam for the mod to appear in your Steam library.

If the mod does not appear in your Steam library after restarting Steam, make sure you have extracted the "CWTH" folder to the sourcemods folder before doing so, otherwise the mod entry may not appear.

If you are using a non-steam version of the game, follow these steps:

1) Download the mod on this page. If you get "Download Timeout", try downloading from the available mirrors.

2) Open the downloaded file with File Explorer, 7-Zip, or any other program that can open ZIP files.

3) Locate your non-steam version of Portal.

4) Extract the "CWTH" folder to your non-steam version of Portal where hl2.exe is located.

5) Right click on hl2.exe, click Create Shortcut. (If you are on Windows 11, you will have to click on More Options when you right click on hl2.exe)

6) Right click on the shortcut, click Properties, and add this parameter after the file path: "-game CWTH" (no quote marks). Then click "OK".

If done correctly, the mod should launch on your non-steam version of Portal.

*IF YOU ARE GETTING MISSING TEXTURES AND/OR UNABLE TO ENTER MAPS AFTER LAUNCHING THE MOD, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT BOTH PORTAL AND THE MOD ARE INSTALLED IN THE SAME DRIVE LOCATION.*

Changelog:

• Flashlight has been finally fixed. Now you no longer need to bind the flashlight action yourself.
• Fixed gravity gun sounds and sprinting sounds from silencing GlaNix's voice lines.
• Game icon now shows up properly in Steam library.

HUD changes:

• Fixed big captions after Steam Deck update.
• Changed HUD to the Half-Life 2 one.

Map changes:

• enter_01-02 (map after intro): Hints now appear once you pick up the HEV Suit and the Gravity Gun.
• Every weapon in the map will automatically switch to it when picked up.
  • Weapon pickup icons will not show up, unfortunately.
• port_way (2nd map in "Bearing Rotor" chapter): Added HEV supercharger to make the level easier to complete, this also balances out damage from Striders and Hunters in said level.
• When the player loses a critical object or citizen, or gets stuck, the map will reload a save after its game over message disappears, thus countering what used to be softlocks or long reloads with no fadeout. (except for port_way)

Known Bugs/Crashes:

*Original means you installed this mod through the 2.0 and 3.1 installers

• Launching maps through the developer console after the starting chapter does not give you weapons, except for maps in the "Bearing Rotor" chapter. Fixed in this version.
  • If you are playing the original* version of this mod, you will have to use console commands to give yourself weapons.
    
    Crowbar: give weapon_crowbar
    Gravity gun: give weapon_physcannon
    Portal Gun: give weapon_portalgun;upgrade_portalgun
    HEV Suit: give item_suit
• Red tint appears if the player has less than 100 health, and only goes away at full health, making some darker areas even harder to see. Appears in both versions. You may want to turn off HDR while playing this mod if needed.
  • This is a feature of the original Portal, so there isn't anything I can do to counter this.
• campus_underpass (3rd map in "Strange Island" chapter if taking submarine path): If a portal is placed next to the permanently locked door in the submarine area while another portal is underneath/next to the exit door in the oxygen and fuel supply room, the game crashes when said door opens/closes.
  • This bug cannot be fixed due to something broken in the game engine. To avoid this, make sure that the portal in the submarine area is not placed directly on the ear protection warning sign, otherwise your game will crash when trying to exit the oxygen and fuel supply room.

To Do:

• Add Steam Deck UI support
  • Someone else has done this already, you can find it here: New Steam Deck UI For CWTH file - Mod DB
    • Note: this patch will replace the Half-Life 2 HUD with Portal's HUD, but this will also add back the Achievements button in the normal UI, however this shouldn't make much of a difference anyway.
    • This will not be merged into the archive version, including the Chinese localization addon. (you must download them separately and extract them to their respective locations as their readme files state)
