Post news Report RSS Update on Add-On Collection

Just an update on the Add-On collection I mentioned in my last post.

So. I know this won't be of interest to many people, but eh... I figured I'd add an update to where I am with the add-on collection.

First of all, the campaign list is still around 100, maybe pushing 110. Almost all of those are map packs/mods, with very few single maps. I'm currently looking at adding some of the better single maps and mopping up any campaigns that I've missed, but I'm basically in the final stretch.

Two major mods that I won't be including are Unreal Evolution and Another Reality (Beta Demo). Much as I'd have liked to add them, they aren't compatible with the 227j patch, which is the version I've been using, and frankly is the version I'd recommend everyone else use. Trying to play either mod in 227j throws up an issue with UPak.GLDetGrenade.AvoidThisSpot - something that doesn't happen with 227i (though trying to play THAT version of Unreal had its own issues!). I've actually played both mods and personally, I'm not entirely in love with either, so I don't think skipping them is a big issue, but I know some people will be wondering why they're not here, so there's your answer.

As for why I'm not a fan of them? Evolution adds in excessive weapon recoil which I DESPISE (so even though the other changes are great, I hate how the combat feels - a bit of a problem when there's so much of it!), and Another Reality has levels that are absolutely massive - to the point that areas of interest are minutes apart. Seriously, WAY too big. Both mods have a lot of good to them, but the downsides, for me, sadly outweigh them.

Anyway. Like I say, I'm doing another round-up, checking mostly for good single maps, and once I'm happy with the selection I'll be 7zipping it up ready to release. Might be within the next week or so, but I've got other stuff going on as well, so... who knows. That's the aim, anyway.

...and now, to shut up ModDB, here's an image. This one appeared on the inside of the CD jewel case for the game when it first launched. Which is neat.
