THE CORE custom campaign for portal 2 release news.

Posted by CosmicD on Oct 11th, 2011

Finally! After a week of fiddling with the engine and figuring out how I could release this campaign after the DLC update for portal 2 I have good news! After intenstive testing the last 2 days with playtesters and experts that were willing to lend their hands/brain for the sake of this campaign, i have a stable release for the public.

Now let's remind you of what this campaign is.

THE CORE is a custom campaign for Portal 2 with a new testing approach called "fake coop". You will always be required to manipulate a cube ore a sphere trough the levels in order to complete them.

In addition to 6 maps with new puzzles, the campaign contains additional GLaDOS lines as well as new music, madia and lines for the companion sphere you'll be working with, so without further adue you can:

You can find detailed install information in either link. I hope you'll find it fun to play and await your positive feedback or comments about what can be improved!

Portal 2 wasn't even that great. It was okay, but I was way more excited for it than I should have been. (You can downvote me, but you know it's true.)

Just finished it , i pretty liked it.
Only the fact thou that you forgot to put in some places the light models in the hallway , resulting in a strange hole in the wall.

oops, would there be a model missing in the repository ? If you could show a screenshot I can check what it's about. if it's the lightstrips on some walls those are designed that way to be after a panel of glass.

Sent it to your PM box trough ModDB.
I also threw in a few ways what could cause the problem and some easy for mind ways to fix it.

I know you know how to deal with it but i just wanted to skip the hard part for you.

If you would want me to provide more improvement ideas i could try lookin in the backstage to see if i have anything left.

Just played finished it. It's a great SP mod. I ran into a few minor bugs:
1. You can get into the room with the laser emitter in (I think) the second to last level. The model for the window seems to disappear when doing so, as well as a few other parts of the walls.
2. On the final level, you can take the core off of the exit door override and place it on another button before going into the exit room. If you do this, you become stuck (because the exit is shut). There's also a save point in that room so the only way to fix it is to do the chamber all over again.

Other than that, I enjoyed the gameplay. The first chamber was really tricky to figure out and that level of difficulty didn't drop. The mod adds another layer of confusion atop of what was already there with portal. I would've liked to see more gravity-defying rooms like in the floor of the first chamber - they are mind bending.

Overall: 8/10. It's pretty well polished and is a good challenge to those who think with portals.

I'll just do a "hatch override" button up there and forgot the sphere so the door will temporarily open, it's easy to fix but kinda forgot about that situation.

oh about the laser room well... I guess I'll just texture the stuff that's behind there, I did it for optimization sake but well yeah nothing prevents the player from getting in there, it was low priority for me from a design standpoint because it's more a controlroom kind of thing.

Dude this mod is awesome! Not unsolvable and frustrating, but not too easy. I'd say it's at least a 9. You've enlisted some great voice acting- you can't have enough glados! The use of spheres is great- their roll-ability adds for that little extra bit of complexity; you can't just put it down! Chamber 6 is brilliant- imaginative use of smash-able glass is great!

It feels very well made; just too short.

It's strange that you should have that, could you maybe remove the video.txt from the cfg folder (in the mod, not in the portal 2 dir). Or maybe check your integrity of the installation of portal 2 itsemf.

These puzzles are great, but why doesn't the game save your progress?
I can't remember which map I'm on.

it does, but I tried to unhide the single player menu for save/load within the main menu but nothing will load. I'm not sure what causes this yet so I'd rather let the user play all chapters.
