Your goal is simple: create an army to defend your building and destroy the enemies, while prevent them from doing the same. Don't think this is an easy task though, as you will find yourself with up to 40 different units to choose from, each belonging to one of the five factions in the game. and each having its own quirks and abilities that if used correctly, could turn the tide of the battle, and even bring you the hard-earned victory.

An article regarding the thought process behind the lore of "Power Play".

Those who have visited this page before may remember that I used to have a dedicated lore page for this project, and I removed it.

Why?

For one, I couldn't be bothered to maintain it (as it also served as a encyclopedia at that time), but more importantly, the lore itself underwent through some significant changes even before this mod was conceptualized, meaning that each time that happened, I would have to go through changes not just for the overall story, but also the units and its background. In other words, it's very much a work-in-progress that is subject to change at any given moment.

That said, I can at least go through the ideas that has been thrown around here and there, and see what stuck around and what didn't.

Emblems 1

The current/upcoming emblems

First off, let's start with the emblems I currently have in my computer. Even something as simple as this went through multiple changes throughout the development. In the current version, I specifically designed it with visual clarity in mind; you will see how each of them has a unique geometry and color associated with them.

An emblem for Vulkan I made back in the day...

Solisia is blue and has a generally "USA" vibe associated with them, even though they are more like Knight Templars in lore (more on that later), Vulkan is red and has the same color palette as the modern Russian flag, Fulgura is designed in a way that very much resembles European Union (and totally not ECA from some very famous mod out there), Lamina is green, not just because of its team color, but also how the color itself is associated with Middle East, which is what I'm basing it on for the most part, and Infernus is orange, to play with the idea that its main gimmick is setting people on fire.

Speaking of fire, did you know that Infernus used to be a faction full of literal demons? You could still see the remnants of the idea lingering around, namely how its units look freakish as hell and its color scheme generally resembling Minecraft's Nether World.

But of course, putting literal demons in a world where a bunch of silly humans fight each other in a relatively modern weaponry sounds a little...outlandish to say the least, so I came up with a compromise, that being the idea of having Infernus being a bunch of "magical" humans (read: elves) that uses magic to compensate for their lack of technological advancement. They are essentially GLA but Warcraft-inspired.

As for the other factions, I can describe them in a few sentence: Solisia is USA with a mix of Gothic elements and the attitude of an imperialist state, Vulkan is a mix between Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, hell bent on ruling its territory with an iron fist. Fulgura is basically European Union with the aesthetic that resembles modern military (we're talking about Abrams X and Booker here), and Lamina is my stand-in for GLA, having operated anything from WW2-era vehicle to something that would be comparable to modernized stuff from China (like Al-Zarrah for example), and being a faction that would be comparable to Palestine and Taiwan.

For the actual lore itself, it's essentially a clusterfuck of a situation.

Solisia and Fulgura were two nations that shared its border with Lamina, a once-prosperous behemoth of a country. Solisia didn't like them very much, while Fulgura continued to maintain diplomatic relationship with them. All went to hell when Lamina underwent a brutal civil war, with its government losing its grip in power due to corruption and such, having to retreat southward as the new faction seized control and imposed its iron fist onto the rest of territory, forming the Empire of Vulkan.

World Map that I quickly doodled

With Lamina retreated to the south of its former border, Solisia and Fulgura, who also didn't like each other very much, were forced to work together to contain Vulkanic threat, the former being very keen on seeing their destruction unfold. The problem however started creeping into the cracks when Lamina was brought onto the table: Fulgura insisted that they both should pour whatever resources they can to save the nation, while Solisia considered it a lost cause and would rather wage a full-scale war with the Empire, who at the time was in full-swing for counter-invasion, threatening both nations.

Their inner conflict reached the breaking point when it was revealed that Fulgura had been secretly aiding the Vulkan in an attempt to maintain a semblance of diplomacy, and Solisia, being racist bastards they were, decided that all of these motherfuckers were nothing but a waste of time to them, and started invading the remnants of Lamina themselves, putting them directly in conflict with Fulgura, and turning this war into a three-way conflict, with Lamina being caught in the middle.

So what about Infernus? For the most part, they decided to stay out of the conflict, being a hermit "kingdom" and all that, but some time after the conflict, both the Vulkan and Fulgura, despite the initial conflict, signed a treaty that would put an end between their conflict, and turned their attention towards the main problem: Solisia. Having realized they are in deep shit, they turned to Infernus for assistance, to which they happily obliged and provided them technology that would be very effective in halting the newly-formed alliance and their advancements. What Solisia didn't know however, was that the Infernus was helping them in hopes of weakening all of these factions without getting their hands dirty, waiting for them to tire themselves out before eventually asserting their influence onto the region.

Haven't really thought on how this will all end yet, but that would be the main gist of the story. Of course, there's still a lot to work on, such as the lore of each of the units, which may or may not be necessary depending on what kind of units we are talking. For something like a Cobra tank, it likely wouldn't warrant a deep lore given its lack of significance in the story. Bishop on the other hand, would be one of those units that in lore, was created specifically due to Infernus' assistance, and thus played a very important role in the conflict later on.

And well, that would be all from me...for now. I could expand this and write more about it later, but at this moment, I hope you get to see what kind of stuff I have come up with. Hope you enjoyed the reading.
