"This addon replaces CoC AF3 (lite) skyboxes with S.W.T.C. skyboxes (plus AA2 skyboxes for foggy weather)." <- says in the description above^. That's all this addon does.

You want more detailed description?

Here:

"A skybox is a method of creating backgrounds to make a computer and video games level look bigger than it really is. When a skybox is used, the level is enclosed in a cuboid. The sky, distant mountains, distant buildings, and other unreachable objects are projected onto the cube's faces (using a technique called cube mapping), thus creating the illusion of distant three-dimensional surroundings. A skydome employs the same concept but uses either a sphere or a hemisphere instead of a cube.

Processing of 3D graphics is computationally expensive, especially in real-time games, and poses multiple limits. Levels have to be processed at tremendous speeds, making it difficult to render vast skyscapes in real time. Additionally, realtime graphics generally have depth buffers with limited bit-depth, which puts a limit on the amount of details that can be rendered at a distance.

To compensate for these problems, games often employ skyboxes. Traditionally, these are simple cubes with up to 6 different textures placed on the faces. By careful alignment, a viewer in the exact middle of the skybox will perceive the illusion of a real 3D world around it, made up of those 6 faces.

As a viewer moves through a 3D scene, it is common for the skybox to remain stationary with respect to the viewer. This technique gives the skybox the illusion of being very far away, since other objects in the scene appear to move, while the skybox does not. This imitates real life, where distant objects such as clouds, stars and even mountains appear to be stationary when the viewpoint is displaced by relatively small distances. Effectively, everything in a skybox will always appear to be infinitely distant from the viewer. This consequence of skyboxes dictates that designers should be careful not to carelessly include images of discrete objects in the textures of a skybox, since the viewer may be able to perceive the inconsistencies of those objects' sizes as the scene is traversed.

The source of a skybox can be any form of texture, including photographs, hand-drawn images, or pre-rendered 3D geometry. Usually, these textures are created and aligned in 6 directions, with viewing angles of 90 degrees (which covers up the 6 faces of the cube)."

That good enough?^

r2_sun_lumscale_amb 0.3
grass density and radius boosted

Everything else is left at what they are when set to DX9 enhanced maxed in graphic options.

SWTC for CoP comes with a custom recommended user.ltx, I never tried those values, it might be worth though...

I'll see if it is good or not and add it to the package accordingly.

This is really cool, might try this one too,but i do have one more question:I noticed the note about this not performing well on older machines, did you add some sort of low res textures like in AW?And if not how well would it perform on a 4gb RAM memory pc with a 1Gb Vram alltogether with AW?Thanks in advance

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

I'm afraid no low res for this, the whole point of it is to have spectacular skies without any compression artifacts.

I cannot really guarantee how it will run on different machines, that's why I added the warning. I'm running it with AW high res grass, 1gb vram, 8gb ram @ W7 64-bit, and haven't had any hitches so far.

I think TC doesn't care what machine you have or what addons you use, it crashes nevertheless. At least on level change. Once I'm there, I can usually play without any surprises.

Pretty much what Brainscorcher said. I can't really find a workaround for Truck Cemetery and the game always crashes when it loads. However, thanks to auto-saving, I am always able to play it upon re-boot.

I used to crashed in the TC...always crashing. But i searched in google and found this workaround, add -noprefetch in the game shortcut, example: "E:\Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat\Stalker-CoC.exe" -noprefetch

After that no crash at all,i'm using a 4gb of ram,1gb vram,dx9 enhanced and maximum setting.

I also have a 2gb GPU, and Truck Cemetery can crash if you use too many add ons (typically when loading level). Hi-res skies tend to use several hundred MBs extra, and can be the culprit. Either get a better GPU, or use fewer addons.

Oi bud, are Autumnal Winds and S.W.T.C compatible with Call of Misery?
I'd love to use those but I'm not sure if they'll even work.

I guess they should, but I'd rather ask.

Since 0.5 version the games crashes on the loading screen of Truck Cementery.I was playing with the "-no prefetch", autum wins and swtc 0.4 just fine.

I think the engine cannot handle the 0.5 textures on that giant level.

Love your mods.

Added blowouts and night textures increase the memory load ~120mb. It might be the straw that breaks camel's back.

If you don't might the default night textures and blowouts you can get rid of the hi-res ones:

gamedata\textures\sky

delete af3_blowout folder

go to af3_clear folder and delete textures

from 00-00 to 04-00 and from 22-00 to 23-00 (34 textures in total)

do the same in af3_partly folder.

That restores the mem. consumption to the level of 1.04.

I've tried that and still crashing on truck cementery.
I've reinstalled swtc0.6 + autum winds 1.1a and works perfectly with the vanilla maps, even with the big ones like Swamp or NNP Chernobyl while there was an emission. The game was using up to 5,5g/8gb ram of my PC with no problems at all.

I'm just gonna avoid that level like the plage and stop using -no prefetch which cause massive stutering, it's the only custom map made for the mod hence the problems.
I think only the CoC Team have to resolve this issue.

Your mods are awesome!

Oh i forgot, Truck cementery with autum winds or swt 0.4 sky textures + -no prefetch will become playable if anyone is looking for a workaround.

That's why the description has an oom warning.

You can try adding -noprefetch to coc shortcut. If that does not help then you have the option to remove the addon.

Very nice skyboxes. Thank you!

Can we have 3 different Game Menu Screens please?

- Autumn (is already included in the download)
- Summer
- Winter

I've got 3 different installs of CoC with

- Autumnal Winds
- Absolute Nature Redux
- Winter Mod + Snowfall

It looks odd to load the game with your autumn game menu theme when playing let's say Winter mod. Can you please add 2 more themes?

Or if not, can you please write a short and simple description how I could do it by myself?

I just recorded short game video with Fraps, converted it here: Video.online-convert.com (changed the file extension to ogm after conversion)

and converted the menu music with Foobar2000 from mp3 to ogg.

Renamed them with correct names (ui_background_new.ogm and menu.ogg) and dropped in right locations.

The skyboxes have never moved, they are static background textures. There's a moving overlay cloud texture (sky_oblaka) which is more/less visible depending on the weather, but SWTC does not touch that.

Use one of the 'soundcloud downloader' sites to download it as mp3 and use one of the online 'ogg converter' sites to convert it to ogg. Rename it to menu.ogg and place inside gamedata\sounds\music.
