Before making the model, I asked Jangalomph how it was going to used, how many would be visible at a time, and what kind of setting they would be in.

Taking that into consideration I decided to make the Highest detail model have 1008 polygons, and the lowest lod model have 400 polygons.

it may sound like alot at first, but it's right in line with the performance budget that he's allotted.
