Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander is well on its way, with the remastered edition coming this December 2023. In the last few months, our entire team has been hard at work, focusing on all aspects required by a total conversion of this scale. Today, we're happy to share a glimpse of the future.

Remastering the Beast

Remastering Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander has always been challenging, and we knew this from the very beginning. Given all the efforts and hard work the original development team put into the project until 2012, this conversion has always been a beast in all its significant aspects. Whether we talk about gameplay mechanics, visuals, unique features, missions, or campaigns, the original version of Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander is genuinely remarkable.

In the first place, our first attempts were to port the content from the classic to the remastered edition. Still, it didn't take long for our team to realize that we would ultimately hit a dead end. The amount of content that had to be ported and updated with new assets was astonishing, both in numbers and size. Given that, we decided to start all over again, from scratch, with a build that would be more performant, realistic, and immersive.

Starting from all over again resulted in months with no in-game footage, leaving just 3D renders of our upcoming ships, maps, and interface. Although we understand that some of you may have been worried about that, it was our best decision. Viper Interactive has everything to prove, and we are doing our best to make this release the most exciting one we've ever worked on. Take the new flak system, for instance. It is an insane piece of art, both for its visuals and scripts. Bings, our development lead, has been hard at work and is still busy working on it the best he can. We can't wait to see you all play with it.

Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander has been praised for many years, especially under its most considerable release activity until 2012, as one of the most immersive mods ever made. We will be honest, this notoriety is what motivates us. It encourages us to go even further, to push the boundaries of what wasn't possible with the classic edition. Doing a pure copy of the classic wasn't our goal. We wanted to lay out our vision for what Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander should be in 2023.

Immersion and realism

Our vision is based on realism and immersion. The main advantage of the classic releases is they immerse you in a very particular way, giving you the feeling that you are Admiral Adama, in command of Battlestar Galactica. To make that happen, we've gathered feedback from our community, getting as many ideas and reviews on the classic edition and comparing them with what's doable and what's not. It led us to make one crucial decision: only provide official and cannon ships.

While we were hesitant initially, time and effort proved us right. Now, even on Homeworld vanilla levels, the immersion is genuinely there. And it's just the beginning, as the mod will rely exclusively on Battlestar Galactica-themed maps.

With all that being said, we hope all the hard work the team puts out will pay off once you get to play the mod. We'll have more to share in the coming days and weeks, so please stay tuned for more. And remember: the mod will be released this December, concluding the Battlestar Galactica: Fleet Commander story arc that has had ups and downs since the release of Homeworld Remastered.

So Say We All.
