Schneider CA1
what a beast :o
strange tank design with that cannon mounted like that
It is. It was one of the reasons why this tank was bad.
Awesome texture and animations. Good job.
nice
You got to love WWI tanks regaurdless of thier current comparisain to our modern tanks. They might not be as shock and awe right now. But during WWI they scared the troops. They were the biggest thing on the battle field outside of a factory and it was shooting at you!
Germans were shocked only in first days they saw those monsters. But they quickly adopted their defences to stop tanks. German field artillery was tank's nemesis. Here is an example of how effective german artillery was when Schneider CA1 saw action for the first time -
It was first used in combat in an attack outside Barry au Bac, on the Aisne River, on the 16th of April 1917 (a part of Nivelles infamous and futile offensive against Chemin des Dames). The approach to the jumping-off positions was done in broad day-light, in full view of the Forward Observers of the German Artillery, who greeted the slow moving column with showers of shells, inflicting heavy casualties on the AFV:s even before they crossed their own lines. Some tanks managed to breach the German lines, but it was still a disaster. Of the 121 tanks used, 81 were immobilized, 56 of which were destroyed beyond repair.
Only way the tanks could be effectively used was if surprise was achieved for offensive. If this was done - then yes, tanks were very effective. In other situations, artillery could easily stop them.
Yes, German artillery was isane. But you still have to love the tanks! Love the tanks! LOVE THEM!
