Hey folks,
It's been a little over a year since you last heard from us here at Ballmen, and I have some bad news: Ballmen is, for all intents and purposes, completely dead. I lost contact with the other two developers about a year ago, and as far as I can tell they have no interest in continuing production of the mod. I have no access to the actual source code and materials for this mod, so unless I can find a way to get in touch with them, it seems that Beta 1.5 will be the final public release of Ballmen.
However, I would not at all be adverse to a revival in the future with a different team, but only if I can get in touch with MovEaxEsp and procure the relevant source files. Get in touch if this interests you.
It was fun working on Ballmen and I hope you guys enjoyed what we did manage to give you. I am afraid it only has a future in the realm of LAN parties and their ilk, and I hope I'm not the only one that still enjoys playing it with a few friends over LAN from time to time.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions you might have, as I am the only remaining active developer and will do what I can to help you out.
It was fun while it lasted and I want to personally thank all of you who gave us positive feedback, and in particular to the several dedicated community members we had who stuck with us while it was important. Thank you especially to Xenogenetics/Skeetles and [IHQ]Reima for their fantastic support and contributions to Ballmen.
Again, please refer any questions / comments / concerns to me, as nobody else is likely to answer you - you can do this by PMing me here on ModDB, or by sending me an email at ennui [at] halflife2 [dot] net. Thank you for your support over the year or so of our active development :) I hope at least some of you got some decent enjoyment out of our beta builds.
I'll also take this as an opportunity to plug my primary mod project, Half-Life 2: Wars - if you are a fan of the HL universe and of RTS games, go on and check it out :)
Aww..
Well, do like hl2wars, last time I tried the internal beta, it would'nt work, Ima go try it now
Sad to hear =(
As for your efforts to make the source code public: please do. I don't think there is a single person in the modding community who isn't interested in seeing how you got the wall-walking working.
Once the wall-walking code is released, we will begin to see endless wall-walking zombie mods. -_-
This was my favorite mod.
*sniff* This is sad :(.
:(
i cry.
It's a shame to see a mod die like this. Hopefully you can get in contact with your former team members. A source release is better than nothing.
That's my goal at this point, to get in touch with the coder somehow and ask if he minds making it open source so that other teams or people can tinker with it / use it. He dropped off the face of the internet, though, so I'm not sure I'll be able to find him.
A pity, this was a very interesting mod :(
NOOO, i loved this mod. D=
I just registered to let you know, there are many people on the Source Coding forums and elsewhere that would be very interested to see your team's approach to variable gravity. I know I speak for many others when I say: Thank you for attempting to get a hold of the source code, and good luck! We appreciate it!
Oh man, that's really a pity, it was really great mod, it's shame that "special" and funny mods like this usually dies, oh well ... Guess what's gotta happen, gotta happen.
I have the source code, don't know which version but it has everything implemented that was in the last release. I would love to see this project alive again, would even put up a site!
Ill talk to you further about that in private Skeetles. If we could find another good coder I would not be adverse to giving this thing another shot.
your mod died because the models are the main off-putting thing.
