Aren't the Bren and type 99 the same gun only that one is used by the Japanese?
BTW:I know that they're both Brens
China bought a hell lot of ZB26 LMGs in the interwar period. When Japanesse invaded China they of course encountered them.
The Japanesse LMGs (type 11) were outdated compared to the ZB26. As a result Japanesse developed new LMG - the type 96 and 99 which 'borrowed' certain design features from the ZB26.
Btw do you know what the 'BREN' and 'ZB' stands for?
ZB = Zbrojovka Brno - literally 'Brno gunfactory', name of the Czechoslovakian company than made the ZB26
BREN = BR + EN
BR = Brno - city in Czechoslovakia where the gun was designed (in the ZB company)
EN = Enfield - gunfactory in Britain which got the license for producing the gun for British army
