First of all, the second beta is available. To download it, you will need to sign up for the beta program. It's a fairly quick two-steps process, so you shouldn;t have any problems joining. This beta brings (besides a new map) one important bug fixe and several new features. The bugs fixed was the fact that sentries and pick-ups didn't generate the desired items on impact. Thanks Vemarkis for spotting this, on "Gunnison County Fortress". The features added in and the improvements made consist in:
- Attachments
Yes, now the human characters from AvP2 Fortress are carrying pieces of equipment such as helmets, headsets and a shoulder lamp. Vemarkis is the actual author for this. - Taunts for the heavy
"Combat protocol engaged!", "Scanning for contact ...", these are two of the taunts for the combat heavy synthetic. As with the attachments, credits go to Vemarkis. - Fortress only servers
Starting with this version, the AvP2 Fortress mod will detect only servers running the mod. This will make things easier when searching for that one server you liked, but you can't find it in the swarm of the other AvP2 servers. - Limited number of class changes
This is purely a way to deter F1 spamming, from Soldier to Engineer, back to Soldier, back to Engineer, and all only to have a gozillion sentries in your own base. - Tweaked down the sentries
Since several people pointed this out (TheAlain, Vemarkis, Windebieste), I toned down a bit the sentries. They still remain deadly, so I suggest either taking them down from a distance (hint, use a sniper) or from a safe place (a demolitions specialist works best in this case).
And I heared from him that he's working on another map. It's beyond me how he keeps up this pace, but he delivers maps faster and faster. And even for that reason alone, we need beta testers. So, do sign up, and besides the chance to play the latest maps for this game, you can also shotgun Windebieste on the spot if you don't like his maps, or nail my head to the nearest wall if you don't like any of the code related features. Because we'll be playing.
