Hello again, dear players and fans of Silent Hill games. We are planning to release our game, Alchemilla, as soon as possible. It will be end of December or first days of January, but we will try to bring it to you BEFORE 2015.
There are still quite a lot work to do especially with testing bugs and etc. We want to polish all things for you comfortable play.
It was REALLY hard to accept that fact that game WOULD NOT include: inventory system, melee or fire combat system, NPC`s interactions. (cause we cant find guys who could work with that kind of stuff seriosly and steadely)
This game is just a quest/hidden object (adventure type based game) in Silent Hill universe.
Today we have a nice video trailer for you. See you next time.
I'm sorry that you guys couldn't add those features you were hoping for, but the game looks great anyways! Hope to see more vids soon!
Now this is just sad...
It's sad you won't include those things, but I think all your fans will appreciate your work no matter what. You absolutely deserve the SH title. Thank you for making the decision and good luck!
Bummer to hear, but I'm still excited to play this.
Keep it up lads.
Then why release the whole thing now? You guys can't take the extra time to try and recruit more talent to help you out? If people are asking for money for their work why can't you start a Kickstarter or something if you're serious about this game? Why lower the bar?
The irony of your avatar...
A Kickstarter for this is probably not going to happen because this is A mod based on A video game franchise.
Recruiting talent is not that easy. I think the mods have already requested help but you can't really force someone to work for you.
Getting kickstarter with a game based off Silent Hill will get lawsuit from Konami.
That's a bit of a shame on the NPC interactions, a silent hill mod that seemed to me like its own game not getting an inventory however is a bit odd. Of course when it comes down to it its what the game is like that matters and not details but it still odd you guys didn't hire someone to make it because when it comes down to it, this is the next silent hill we've been waiting for and it would make the project just a bit more professional feeling/looking. The lack of combat I can easily forgive because thats never been Silent Hill to me.
Hmm, if the gameplay is good, the inventory should not be a real problem. I just we hope to see some other characters or interactions in cutscenes or something, but i doubt it if they didn't get any voice actors..
"Because thats never been Silent Hill to me". I dont know what you mean, but in my opinion you're wrong. Combat in horror games are not making them bad or worse, its all about tastes of course, but still. I never understood all that fanatism over being completely defensless and running around like a pussy who cant even pick up an iron bar to defend himself/herself.
Because I don't expect a regular person who has no combat training to take on monsters, as soon as devs give players the ability to kill they end up killing everything. Nothing can ruin horror faster than inadvertently turning players into action movie heroes. Plus all of that aside, silent hill never has done it well, its always been awfully cumbersome to aim at enemies and many take to many hits so that its more annoying than fun. If the games haven't done combat well, and would be difficult to do well here then its better not to do it.
Your opinion, also, please dont mix everything in a blender. There is a difference between having ability to defend yourself and having Michael Bay-like crap.
if u can pay for this - we could hire.
Well, if you really need it, I can try to do something about and/or ask somebody for support. I mean I can help, but not because I want combat so much, but if that would really help the project, I can at least try to help. How much you need in general?
about 1000$. No jokes
Necesserely in dollars, or rubbles will work too?
Dollars
Okay, I'll try to do something. Paypal?
webmoney pls
just watched ur trailer, i'm looking forward to it! it's been a while when i last played a good horror mod 4 the source engine :)
It'a shame, but I'm pretty sure I already have a hard-on for pre 2015 release
It's a shame you wont implement the features you wanted but I must say what you've done as it is is very impressive, that trailer is more Silent Hill than any Silent Hill game trailer released since 3! I wish you all the best of luck with your release :)
Even as of now, the Alchemilla mod is more of a Silent Hill than any of the more recent releases.
Shame to hear about those features. But hey, you could always make a sequel, perhaps after the original gains some more visibility post-release. Or if that's too much, you could re-release it later as a kind of "Redux" version. Regardless, I am sure what you have will be more then enough for a solid experience, if the demo you released awhile back was any indication.
Cant wait. Ребята, вы лучшие
Don't rush and keep it polished :). So, will we encounter any enemies then? It would be cool to totally try to outrun the enemies or use stealth, Amnesia kinda-style. I don't care about the combat, SH is always more about getting the hell out. You should really have balanced gameplay to don't let it become a FPS when using guns and stay with true survival-horror.
Though you probably forgot, that almost all (except Shattered Memories for example) SH games included a lot situations (besides boss battles too) when combat is INDEED necessery and really can save your life. You cant always run away and hide. Almost all Survival Horror games included at least some kind of combat or ability to defend yourself. Time to realise that just because game includes combat or ability to defend yourself it doesnt mean that it becomes less scarier or even not a (true) surviva-horror and that horror games are not necesserely supposed to be only about "hide and run". Sorry, I am not trying to be rude, but that idiotic overfanatism over lack of combat needs to stop. I had enough of it, when shitton of people said that Slender is the scariet game of all time.
I'm not one of those guys that says that non-combat horror is the best, and comparing SH to Slender is one thing that I just won't want to do. I really liked the combat in SH, people said it was clunky and such, but that's just a part of the charm. I just mean, SH is more about the atmosphere and story and such, not about shooting and wacking your way true the levels. When you played SH on the harder difficulties, there are many situations when you gave the guns, but not the ammo, or just have a melee weapon. So you needed to try and outrun the enemy or take out the main threat. That feeling of being just a normal guy/girl and being kinda powerless is what I like about SH. I just think that, if we don't going to encounter any enemies, that would be a bummer, and we will lose that SH feeling. I rather evade the enemies then, then not having any enemies at all.. Hopefully we will feel some kind of threat, that's all that I'm saying. I don't want this game to turn out to be just a "walking-simulator", that wouldn't fit it..
Aaah, okay, sorry then. Well anyway, no matter do I disagree with you or not, sorry if I sounded rude and I actually respect your opinion.
Sadly, they confirmed there will be no enemies at all :(
Even with the lack of interaction and no guns I think this mod will be amazing! Silent Hill is much more about atmosphere. I was looking some gameplay videos of the new Silent Hill and I saw no interactions or inventory in any of them.
I highly disagree here. Lack of others survivors and living human characters like you etc, and lack of guns are not always making things scarier and better. Its not necessery to remove combat and other characters to make better or scary, though I see your point.
I'm sad that the features are unavailable.
I do hope that the atmosphere, story, and polish of the mod can kick that sadness straight out to drown in Lake Toluca.
Great that you release anyway! A lot of teams could learn from that.
Thats great, soon i will be able to play it,awesome.I was waiting so long :)
Lack of combat is ok for me,look at Penumbra or Amnesia games. No combat system,no npc(they had inventory system, but it was not that important aspect of a game)that games was just awesome, top level of horror games franchise.I also like adventure games and silent hill so i think i will like it as it is.Atmosphere is everything, this is most important thing,if its good, everything will be good. But yeah...it sucks that you cant do it as you want, and improve the game as you like.Maybe next time you will be able to do something bigger.
You have a point, but I would argue about Penumbra and Amnesia being examples of top level of horror games. As I said numerous times, lack of combat are not always making game better and doesnt mean that if you cant protect yourself in the game it makes it worse/bad/less scarier. And to be honest, I am actually hands up for combat (not always though and if possible), cause IMHO characters are not always supposed to be completely defensless like kittens. But still, you are right that we at least have a hope for atmosphere, though I personally doubt that its gonna beat Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
Ah yeah, a little addition. To be honest, I played in Amnesia and Penumbra series and I never understood why people is consider it to be so extremely scary. Yes, it have pretty nice elements (though some other horror games have them too, like Eternal Darkness has sanity metter and sometimes ***** around with you), but for me it was nothing so unique to be extremely scared of. I was only afraid of that monster will kill me and I will need to start from beginning of checkpoint.
You say that he has a point yet you think that Amnesia and Penumbra are not good examples of top horror? Its more about being afraid of whats coming, than the moment to moment monster chases. The games play with your mind, with atmosphere and sound design. Sometimes the mechanics of the game add to this element, trying to turn a winch/valve while monsters are in the area (yet you can't stop to look back lest you start from the beginning) and after escaping once or twice you get more and more paranoid about when the monster will show up and whether you have an escape route down. In Amnesia looking at enemies decreases sanity so its encouraging you not to look at them, or hiding underneath beds (like in Outlast) as the enemy approaches is another one. Its still scary because eventhough you can't actually see the enemy your mind is imagining the worst possible nightmare it can based on the sound (and in Outlast there is still an element of danger because enemies sometimes look underneath the bed or in the locker). It all can heighten the paranoia. As soon as players can suddenly start killing everything it can absolutely damage if not eliminate this tension. If games can combine combat, stealth and this new type of evasive gameplay (running and avoiding enemies), I've yet to see it but I'm not saying it can't be done. Eventhough Silent Hill might be the right series to try, they obviously need programmers capable of doing it well.
Personally think its better to try and excel at one style of gameplay.
I meant that he have a point about lack of combat, I just forgot to add it in the comment, since it was too alte to edit it. And also, please, learn to read more carefully. I DIDNT said that they are not good examples of horror games, in my opinion they're indeed great (though third Penumbra are not scary and IMHO the worst game in the series), just pretty overrated, especially after all that crap after PewDiePie's and other crappy letsplayers's fantards jumped on a hype-train. It didnt really scared me much, though I DID said it has a lot of pretty nice elements for a horror game, though some other games that came out before Amnesia have them too. The only thing that scared me is being afraid of being caught and killed, starting againt from checkpoint, cause its pretty annoying and frustrating, though it did gave me some adrenaline. That "Run and Hide" think is really overrated and overused nova days, I agree that always including combat are not right, but saying that lack of combat makes things better or much scarier is aint right too. Even if game has combat or some other ways to defend yourself it doesnt mean that game is not horror or less scarier. There is a lot of horror games with combat that can really scare you etc. But I guess it all depends on tastes of the person and his/her lets say scare matter.
I just really like atmosphere.Im thinking that is much more creative and harder to create that type of game.Cheap jumpscares or slashing zombies/monsters with machete or shooting at them for hours isnt very amusing.Yes,of course "no combat style" is overrused, because some of this games was bad,but when i played first penumbra games it was years ago,and it was really innovative.Even Amnesia was still innovative, because after that people tried to copy that(with mods or new games),it was like new genre.I think that's not really important if you can defend yourself or not, important thing is atmosphere.Without it horror-shooter game will be just stupid and boring.Silent hill was perfect example of good game, when you could fight much and atmosphere was heavy and mindblowing.Penumbra/Amnesia is good example of good game where you can't fight. Both of this games had good atmosphere, and they had smart mechanic, how to scare a player without hordes of monsters or without jumpscares only.I really dont like games based only on jumpscares, something like amnesia clones, but much smaller, weaker, with absolutely no atmosphere and with lot of stupid jumpscares. Its just cheap, not creative. That's why i agree that this type of genre is overrused, mostly because bad games thats not even getting close to Amnesia level.
I can't wait! It's a shame that you couldn't add everything, but it looks awesome still :D
I can understand removing inventory system and NPC interactions, but....melee and fire combat? How can you screw this up?
"Quest/hidden object game". Oh, ******* perfect, like we never had enough of this **** already.
Seriously, sorry guys, I can understand everything and I am sorry for such an *** with the game, but personally for me, its a kick in the balls. Its just my opinion, but that no-combat crap are completely overused nova days. Though Fallout_Boy and Taquit in my opinion have a point, that combat are not necessery for Silent Hill (to those who disagree: its still my opinion of course, but please, look up Silent Hill: Shattered Memories) anyway, I at least hope it will turn out good.
Mr.Jhon, we actually VERY WANT to bring combat to our game but its impossible due lack of needed people. you know C++? or maybe you know how to do animation? you know how *** painfully to add these things to Source? No. That`s the reason why...
I just dont understand, how its really hard to make combat in a mod for a game which already has combat, sorry, I am not a pro and dont understand something, but it just seems weird for me. No offense btw.
Need:
1) NPC
- Animations
- Sounds
- Particles
- C++ code
- spawn scripts on maps
2) Weapons
- Weapon models
- Weapon sounds
- Weapon C++
- Weapon with hand models
- Weapon animations
3) Healthkit and ammo
- models
- C++
- Pickup sounds
4) Inventory
- C++
- 2D art
5) Game balance
Yeah, it's really hard.
Ooooh, okay then.....
Me has question, Do you have to run, and hide from the enemies, or will there be just no enemies at all?
No enemies at all.
but what were those nurses and those veins from the ground and that strange creature without arms at 1:30 in the video?
they were monsters ^^
oh so they are not going to be in the final version?
they will be but without fight
cool
You say no fighting, but as people have already asked, will there be any chase sequences? Putting all that work into making the really nice monster designs would be a MASSIVE waste if they aren't even a threat ever.
