Ages of the Federation is a new total conversion mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. This mod takes place in the Enterprise and Original series eras, focusing on the conflict between the early Federation and Klingon Empire. A resurgent Romulan Star Empire, angry and still licking its wounds after their defeat to Earth and her allies waits in the shadows, ready to take advantage of any of misstep by either the warring powers. The Xindi, new to the galactic stage are also eager to forge their own path.

Starbase 25, this is the USS Discovery we left space dock understaffed and request additional personnel.
See now this Discovery I like. I mean I like the STDSC one (I'd love it if they'd shorten those nacelles though) but this one feels more like an appropriate progression.
I get it though, TOS was low budget and a product of 1960s TV budgets. If it was made today it wouldn't look like what we got, but respecting ones own franchise takes priority over "Look at what could of been" Though I do love that Walker Class (Shenzhou), speaking of which, would we be seeing a ENT, TOS or Kelvin era take on it? The Shenzhou was considered an older design by the 2240/50s. So it may of been launched when the Kelvin was (Between 2220/30s?)
It probably wouldn't be that much of a bother if they updated the look of it...to a degree. Adding stuff that makes it really confusing on how ships look just as or even more advance than ships meant to be in the future does hurt it though.
Just look at things like Gabriel Koerner's update of the USS Enterprise. It's an update and looks like something that fits into the era a lot more than these new designs do even the Kelvin.
Where do you guys intend on fitting this ship into the fleet line up?
I can see this sort of working as a class which was introduced not very long after the Federation was formed. Perhaps an attempt at building a ship which can take more punishment than it's predecessors.
Personally I consider Discovery to take place place in some weird alternate universe. It solves all problems with lore and continuity.
I believe the Discovery is filling the Support Capital ship role at the moment.
Considering it was originally a concept for the constitution class I'd say it would be between the NX Refit (Columbia class), Ares class (Axanar) and a constitution. Bridging TOS with ENT AS A SUPPIRT cruiser
