Ages of the Federation is a new total conversion mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. This mod takes place in the Enterprise and Original series eras, focusing on the conflict between the early Federation and Klingon Empire. A resurgent Romulan Star Empire, angry and still licking its wounds after their defeat to Earth and her allies waits in the shadows, ready to take advantage of any of misstep by either the warring powers. The Xindi, new to the galactic stage are also eager to forge their own path.
Starbases will be implemented somewhat differently in Ages of the Federation, being much more role-specific than general purpose. You'll have to choose your starbases carefully in order to use them most effectively.
The research starbase is a nexus of scientific study and development. Though considerably more expensive to build than a simple research station, this starbase has the benefit of being able to defend itself from attack, and provides a significant boost to your research efforts - being, as it is, the equivalent of four standard research stations. Though lightly armed, these starbases are best deployed in safe locations, as they represent a significant investment in your ability to conduct research. Properly deployed, a research starbase or two can mean the difference between gaining a technological advantage over your enemies, and trailing dangerously behind. Remember, there are no silver medals for coming second in the arms race.
I have to say, i think this is the best looking one!
Really think the paint job for this and the Economic station should be switched, but it looks grand just the same.
Surely switch out this and the economic station? Or change the colour scheme to blue?

This one takes more ques from Regula 1 out of Wrath of Khan, so it makes a solid science choice.
The other one is quite like K-7 out of Trouble with Tribble, just an extra arm (4 there as compared to 3 on K-7) so it's good for the Trade station.
I do agree about the color scheme though. Or possibly just change the color of the Economic Station to yellow/gold. The blue makes me think of Science Division.
It seems that the stations are colored the way they are in order to identify the different branches.
Economic is Civilian, therefore Blue
Logistics and Defense are Military, therefore Red
Science has both Civilian and Military applications, therefore Grey
