88 Flak is a fast-paced combat mod for the 3D action game Freelancer by Digital Anvil. It aims to bring quick and brutal arena-like combat to Freelancer with Unreal Tournament 2004 style speed and years of refined Team Fortress inspired class balancing. In addition, it aims to expand the gameplay experience with numerous new features, including docking on player Battleships (use teammates as mobile bases), purchasable stations (private bases that shoot at hostile NPCs and players), hiring AI wingmen, dynamic AI routines (88 Flak's AI is hailed to be the best in Freelancer), ability to script story missions in multiplayer (extremely beta), AI Bots (persistent NPCs with their own reputations and loadouts), and full customization via a Freelancer Mods Manager script with configurable client-side and server-side options such as advanced graphics/audio and more.

88 Flak 1.27 is soon to enter into public beta phase - this is pretty much a full release of the mod, however released only to the 88 Flak forum visitors. In this time-frame, things like getting the server up and running are accomplished, as well as doing any last-minute bug-fixing or tinkering where appropriate from feedback. The "finished" product will then be sent to the Lancers Reactor with accompanying news post, a banner, etc.

Flak 1.27 totes features such as:
-- A re-done flight model (engine kill is now on all ships, and most classes drift around more to be specific)
-- Large balance overhaul (VHFs no longer suck, for real this time! =P )
-- Further improved AI
-- The new "bot" squads for anti-social people ( Memes.no )
-- Increased sight range on players and NPCs (players show up at 20Km un-grouped instead of 5Km, 150Km grouped instead of 10Km. NPCs show up at 5Km instead of 2.5Km)
-- Faction affiliations (getting friendly with a faction automatically prefixes your name with that faction's tag, and you will show up hostile/friendly to any player hostile/friendly with your faction)
-- Better asteroid fields (you can now move a Battleship or Station through one without frustration)
-- A new pilotable station (Rochester Base), making for 31 pilotable stations now.
-- 10 new NPC voices (17 total!)
-- One large crap-load of minor tweaks to make Flak play better.
-- Another large crap-load of bug-fixes and crash-fixes, served warm. =)
-- And, last but not least, Navy patrols in the Freeport 7 Memorial no longer fly straight into the sun. =D *shot at*
