I didn't have to do any port config to get multiplayer to work but I notice its dodgy sometimes and you have to quit and restart. There don't seem to be any open games when I play on US West, but I'm frequently able to find the game by name when my friend creates it and vice versa.

I must love this game a bit too much as it's the first game on Desura I've felt compelled to write a review for... and I ran out of characters! :D

I hear what you're saying about sea of choices, but can you honestly name any other game out there that's like Drox Operative (Action RPG, dynamic game world, co-op multiplayer, diplomacy, etc.) that's $1 - $7?

Throwing outraged birds or chopping fruit? $1 - $5 for sure. This game? Lot more to offer.

Yeah that would be cool, sort of like you can do in the old game Escape Velocity Nova which gave you general fleet commands (like wander free or stay close) so you didn't have to manage everything ala an RTS (not that that would be bad, just a different game)

The game's moddable and the AI already does things like this, so maybe it's something that could be added. I think the game just needs more of a following.

This games just rocks. It's like Diablo meets Master of Orion in space. Random universe each time, zillions of upgrades, RPG leveling, multiplayer, diplomacy with alien civs, random missions and the whole game world changes as you play.

The only few criticisms I'd have: It's hard to figure out sometimes if your loadout is effective against different enemies. There's so many stats (things like radiation resistance, EM resistance, chance to hit, stealth, etc.) that it can be hard to determine if you've created a good build. Also, to store items you need "cargo bays" which are too rare in my opinion.

All in all worth every penny.

You would agree that there is a difference between "waiting for the price to go down" and...
"Going into designing an indie game with the sole purpose of making money..."
"Wow, $25? Talk about overpriced; you aren't EA..."
"I'm not buying because of price"
"Everyone's problem here is the price"
"pretty big outcry that this game is really expensive"
...would you not?

It's already hard enough to get decent indie RPGs... especially sci-fi RPGs. Give people the impression that everything has to sell for $3 - $5 all the time and we're going to get crap.

Fair enough, you're right it doesn't need to be personal. But we also don't need multiple posts going ON and ON about the price.

"Um...it's one guy...not a huge team from what I've seen. The money goes to him and Desura gets their take."

http://blog.winterwolves.net/ >1 guy.

"not everyone has 25 dollars to blow on a game."

Not everyone has $5. Should it be free for them?

"I am not made of money."

Who is?

"I have a minimum wage job, and many other things I NEED to spend my money on."

Yet you have a roof over your head, working internet connection, a computer to run the game on, electricity, sanitation, food, free time and are apparently from a wealthy enough background to be computer literate.

First World Problem?

"Maybe you don't understand that because you spend all of your money on leisure, but that's not for me to judge."

Please. You ARE judging. You appear to think you are special based on the fact that you are disadvantaged. Your don't have funds to buy-- NOT medication, NOT food, NOT water-- but GAMES. You then leap to the assumption that anybody who would support paying $25 isn't doing it because they believe in indie-- no they must just be taking a break from driving their Lamborghini down the French Riviera.

(buried)

"There is a difference between making a profit, and gutting people with a price."

"Gutting?" Seriously? That kind of hyperbolic language to describe $25? ENTITLED.

"At most a 2D indie game should be 15-17 dollars."

Why? Because you are ENTITLED to only pay that?

"25 dollars is something that you charge when you don't just want to make a living; you want to make a PROFIT."

Isn't a PROFIT what people make when they want to get themselves out of a minimum wage job...?

"...you really just made yourself look like someone who has no concept of money and has had most things handed to them."

And you make yourself look like someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. I can only wish that you'd make a game yourself so that you could see how much sweat and time it actually takes, not knowing if it will sell, trading the opportunity to work in a safer job for the chance to make something you hope others will enjoy-- all to have some joker come on and whine about a measily $25.00.

Played the demo. Some very nice ideas, combat was interesting, I like that there's a sense of open world exploration with the way the map works. Not sure it's a buy for me as I'm not a big fan of anime and didn't really like how the story was presented. I'm also not a big fan of aggro as a core element in combat games (but then I hate MMOs so go figure).

As to the price point this really needs to be said: You people complaining must be SUPER CHEAP!! You seriously come across as a bunch of entitled whiners!

You say you support indie games? Okay, so what's the price of an artist? How much does it take to compose music? How much time does it take to design, balance and debug a game that's supposed to last for tens of hours? What does it take to support yourself as an indie? Do you have ANY idea what it takes to make a game or are you all about just gimme gimme gimme?

How you spend your money (or not) is up to you, but it says a lot about what you value. If you can spend the price of this game on a movie or a couple of hours out with friends but come on these boards and carp about a guy just trying to make a living, it says that you either support crap games with shallow, repetitive mechanics (because that's the easiest to make-- look at the bazillions of "retro" pixel-art indie platformers) or that you're entirely clueless about what it means to vote with your dollar.
