I'm having a problem when using some of the "new" level transition (i e not included in the original games). Coming out on the far side, things are missing from my inventory. Most often my, upgraded Sunrise suit has been replaced with a leather jacket (not good when you're using artifacts to carry extra weight) and sometimes the right-hand weapon is gone too. Going back to the pre-transition autosave, the problem either persists, or the inventory is like it was before, at random. I tend to get through after a few tries, but it's kinda frustrating. If I'm lightly loaded enough, I usually put all my stuff (incl the suit) in the backpack. If so, nothing is missing on the other side, but I'm suddenly wearing a leather jacket...

So far, this has happened going north from Yanov below the fallen bridge near the concrete factory, from Pripyat Underground to Jupiter, the northern exit from Dark Valley and to CNPP from Antennas, near the Monolith war lab.

First and foremost: kudos for CoC! For me, the Zone is a place I love to visit and spend time in rather than a conventional action arena, and CoC provides the purest experience for me so far. Beautiful. It does crash now and then, but not very often and nothing that breaks the game.
I have two niggles, though:

First, anomalies don’t seem to generate new artifacts once they been ”harvested” once. Bug?

Second, the weapon economics are weird. I can understand that you would like to avoid the endless cycle of looting, repairing and selling to get rich in CoP, but it kind of gets a bit silly. 99% of guns found on NPCs are in bad shape, traders won’t touch guns under 80% and repairs are expensive. So weapons end up being basically worthless. This doesn’t make sense, since a good weapon is crucial for survival. Combat soldiers take very good care of their guns, so why don’t stalkers? As for the high repair prices: obviously, no one uses the repairmen’s services, so how can they be so expensive? High prices lower demand, low prices raises it. The repairmen are trying to survive by their craft, the logical thing would be to lower prices to get more work? And where do all these weapons come from? Selling guns into an environment where they have little value doesn’t seem like a very sound business concept.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a major problem. But I feel the system could do with a tweak, some combo of less demanding traders, better NPC gun maintenance and lower repair prices? The Zone doesn’t have to make sense in real-world terms, but it should have it’s own internal logic.

Just to put things in perspective: the game was released a full year before the projected date. Which means that 7 months after release, we're STILL 5 months away from the "real" release date.

Re: the broken video after meeting Doc in the swamps. I unpacked the .db files, ran the video, but it didn't work, same result as before: "can't open video stream". :-(

One thing: do I need to run the game using the unpacked gamedata folder instead of the .db files after playing the video? I tried this, but couldn't get the game to run, so I reinstated the .db files.

Also, @Wraiithz: in your original explanation of the fix, you finish with "u also need the 3rd party thing from install but that should have been done already".I have no idea what you're referring to. Could you please explain?

Thanks.

This is a public service announcement (without guitars), in the form of a repost from an earlier post from dezowave member, summing up the current situation neatly:

"We have one serious bug we are trying to fix. We don't want to release the patch without fixing it because it will require restarting the game once we eventualy fix it."

One key phrase here are "serious bug", which I take to mean that a) it's a game killer and nothing we can live with, and b) that it's hard and difficult work for a small group of enthusiast who right now must be fixing bugs on a scale and at a rate they've never even dreamed of.
Another is "will require restarting", which should mean that they're not prepared to release the patch without the fix and then face another whining chorus when the third patch will require a restart as well. Can't say I blame them.

Another reminder: it's STILL a free game, it's STILL forcibly released a year before the planned completion date and STILL a labour of love by ppl like you and me, needing to sleep, eat, work for a living and spend some time with the family.

So come on, cut them some slack. Do something else, take a walk, it's June, the weather's nice. Jeez.

I had that one. I was told by someone here to redo the fight and make sure to kill at least one soldier close to the factory gates (i e near the mission map marker). First time around I didn't get my first kill until I got to the courtyard in the back. I did it, and the mission finished. You could try that.

There was actually a community fix for that one, part of a package called "S3r1ous Bug Fixes v2.19 by ThaOneDon" (I guess it should be up to a higher version number by now). It's a whole bunch of fixes, but I just replaced the file _gscript.dll in gamedata/scripts with the one in the S3r1ous file. That solved it.
I found the fix package in GSC's LA forum (via a user on this forum, thanks!), you might look for it there if you're impatient. :-)

Well, this frustrating. The game has generally run fine (it was even decent before the patch). Now I'm the Sarcophagus, in the stairwell behind the control room. I've just been through some surreal dream **** and the Monolith's call has started. And now the game keep crashing as I move up the stairs. Serious CTDs requiring a reboot to restart the game.

Any ideas? I was hoping to at least get to a bad ending before the next patch and subsequent new game. :-(

For me, LA ran surprisingly well even in unpatched form, right from the go. Guess I got lucky, and I never install games in the default folder on C\: anyway, I suppose that helped a lot.
I've no idea of the frame rate, it's on one of the dynamic light setting and works just fine, so I'm not touching it. :-) But it's kind of galling that my luck seems to have finally run out, AND that there's a fix available and I can't get at it. But there you go.

I had the same problem, then someone in the forum said that the trick is to kill at least one soldier near the factory gates (i e more or less on top of the mission position marker)at the beginning of the shootout. I didn't get a kill until I reached the courtyard the first time around. I reloaded an earlier save, made sure I got a couple of early kills, and this time Mole was more talkative. No gurantees, but it seems to have worked that time.

I kind of agree... and not. :-) I like the hugeness in one way, the Zone has always been weirdly meditative and this version of it is even more so. I just never ends. But I agree, it's certainly pretty empty, a few more special locations and certainly more artifacts would be nice, it would reward exploration more. A place like Darkscape is crawling with anomalies but has very few (if any) artifacts. But, let's have high hopes for the future, it's an ongoing project and I'm sure detail will be added over time.

Has anybody done the nighttime document retrieval mission in the Agroprom army base efter patching? If so, was the opposition any good?
I did it before the patch, and the grunts were half blind, stupid and mostly just killed each other off with grenades. Yesterday I just barely survived a shootout with a party of mercs camped at the docks in Darkscape. They were quite good, alert, great shots and used cover and flanking moves. Does this reflect AI improvements in the patch or are mercs basically just superior troops?

+1 on on that. LA is an incredible achievement, such a labour of love, so obviously by fans for fans. Kudos, thanks and donations are owed to the Dezowave team.
Though I would certainly understand if dezodor and the team want to forget the whole thing completely after six years of gruelling unpaid work, I sincerely hope they want to carry on. What I'm hoping for is a developing, dynamic Zone, growing with more detail, sidequests and stories over time. New environments certainly won't be necessary for years – the place is huge.:-) This is S.T.A.L.K.E.R like it should be. And it'll be interesting to see what the modder community will come up with over time.

Question: I haven't had any blowouts yet, so I'm constantly worrying. :-) How does LA handle finding shelter? Do you get a HUD direction for the nearest one or do you have to find one on your own?

If I remember an earlier comment correctly, you need to kill at least one soldier near the gates of the Agroprom factory (i e close to the mission position marker). First time around, I didn't off any of the grunts until I got to the courtyard, and had the same problem. I realoaded an earlier save and made sure I scored kills near the gates. Worked fine after that.
On the other hand, that particular area seems to be a bit iffy genreally when i comes to mission completion. I did a side quest (given by Barkeep) to remove some bandits that blocked access to the Agropom underground near the manhole that Mole takes you to. The mission didn't complete until on the third try, despite killing all bandits each previous time. Go figure.

The "never ever" bit is definitely unrealistic, it would be bound to happen some of the time, certainly while travelling. On the other hand, night vision seems to be much more readily avaialble in the LA version of the Zone. I had Petrenko install night vision in my bandit suit (!) for the X18 mission. How the hell you install NV in the hood of a leather jacket is beyond me, but there you go. :-)

In Dark Valley, south of the X-18 factory complex, there's a small valley with some construction material etc lying about, it's crawling with scary cats, anomalies and a few artifacts and other goodies, but there is also something else, more general there. I get the radiation graphics effect, the actor starts groaning and my health goes down, but none of the "warning lights" go on. Medkits restore health with no need for antirad to stop the process. Any idea what's going on there??

Some random LA impressions:

Ok, so I've spent about 6-7 hours in the LA version of the Zone, and so far I'm really enjoying it. The place is HUGE, and seeing as I tend to find some nook or corner I've never visited before on pretty much each playthrough of the original games, this is going to last me years and years, especially if the Dezowave team manages to retain their commitment to the project in the future. I'm hoping for a developing, dynamic Zone with new detail and complexity added in successive updates. Let's hope.

Bugs? Sure, loads of them. Unplayable? No way. But I guess I've avoided many of them by accident, by simply doing what I always do with games: installing it in a separate directory on my D:/ drive. And I've followed this forum pretty diligently, to keep up with what works and what doesn't. Haven't tried more than a few of the community fixes, but I basically run away from rats and avoid weapon upgrades. I've had maybe 5 or 6 random CTDs so far. I've played pro games done by huge dev teams than ran worse than that initially.
The lack of weather changes hasn't really bugged me so far. To me, the pastoral midsummer beauty of the place heightens the sense of dread and danger in some weird way. The most irritating glitches so far has been the extreme night blindness of the grunts at Agroprom (I massacred them all without even breaking a sweat – lots of them died by hand grenade fratricide) and the fact that I can't get at my reward for the zombie hunt in the Garbage because Seryi is unresponsive afterwards.

Long story short: I'm enjoying myself. Partly by chance, perhaps, but there you go. To me, LA is really good even now, the coming patch will hopefully make it great and I'm hoping for amazing in the future.

I got the message and the quest AND it turned up in the log, the direction arrow could be activated just fine and I got the return message when it was done. For some reason, the zombies basically self-destructed by pretty much ignoring me and walking into anomalies instead. Bit of a freebie, but hey, why not? :-)

Hear hear. Check the end titles of any pro shooter game: hundreds of names of pepople working full time AND getting paid. This is a labor of love by a small group of enthusiasts who have been working for free for at least six years. My installation looks great and runs better than the original CS. The first patch is due in two days. Come on, people, show some respect. This is literally a gift for us all.
