Aliens as a concept may not be original, but designing a new alien species from your imagination means you can create something that is entirely unique and challenges the player in a totally new way.

What do you like about them exactly? They are a boring enemy.

If they're done well, and there are lots of them, surviving against friends with them is really fun.

Playing with friends makes anything fun. Even the buggiest most monotonous games are entertaining when you add more people. That's not really an arguments FOR zombies.

Zombies may not be fun. But you're thinking at it in the box, think out of the box!
Most zombie games feature an immune protagonist with seemly overpowered weapons shredding through hordes or zombies.
We should have a zombie game, where you are not immune, you just have melee or basic firearms like pistols and shotgun, and that's all the weapon you'll get. Your goal is to survive, and throughout the game, the zombies will become smarter and deadlier. At start, zombies are limited to walking slowly and biting, but as time goes on, zombies can run, climb, push you over until it gets to a point where you must avoid zombies at all cause, if not, it will alert other zombies and you will get a horde on your ***.

They are, but they are part of the Half-Life standard line up of enemies. They aren't the focus of the mod and we're not aiming to try and make them scary, because they're not. :P

Totally agree with you Dear Urby...

I cannot "believe" any story about zombies in video games or movies, those bastards aren`t a challeging enemy, they are slow, stupid, predictible and weak. The only time i saw "good-problematic" zombies was in the movie World War Z, they attack at incredible speed and by thousands, but nothing more.

The idea of a Zombie : A rotten corpse that chase you...i cannot eat that ********; anyone with a little of biology / anatomy idea know why.

So how can we "rescue" the zombie idea???

Firstly, "the dead revive as zombies" is useless, Dont touch that anymore!!!!

You can change that, for example, saying:

"An strange virus/form life come from the space and infect humans and animals, turning the infected into many different creatures..."

Those creatures has his "abilities", weaks and strong other words a "mutant" is better than a zombie, because this give you more options.

Yep. I'll agree with the mutant idea. I mean Dead Space? The Thing? These were some scary enemies. I believe that we only like zombies because they reseamble mutants. This "something else" a human body can become. And because our childhood if full of Resident Evils 1-3 :)

Mutated humans, combined with wildlife, even plants, where the outcome (enemy) has totally unpredictable powers, well, that's an enemy I would be scared of. The core idea with intriques us is "how the human body can be modified biologicaly beyond recognition". And that, as I mentioned, is why we still like zombies. And I specify "biologicaly" because modifying them "technologicaly" would just make them robots. Which is a different topic altogether. But if we want to make zombies scary again, we must explore whole new paths and ideas, which not many game developers do. And I don't really understand why not. They just take the old-good formula and add co-op. Which adds fun, not scare.

Terrifying. They offer a lot more variety in combat if done right. Zombies are slow / fast, have to get right up in your face and can be dispatched with bullets and melee weapons. SNOOORE

Dinosaurs vary in size, speed, armaments and armour plating. You couldn't take down a Tyrannosaurus with a knife now could you? If you did, you'd have to be really crafty about it. It would be epic.

Dinosaurs are good.

Fast zombies are scary. Look at the movies like World War Z and 28 Days Later. Tho in 28 Days Later the monsters aren't really "zombies", those "zombies run fast as hell and are scary. Or even HL2. But otherwise, I agree with your opinion. The old zombies are cool but slow and not so terrifying seeing how you could just run away from them.
