Damn, I knew we made our co-op/SP support too good :/ We seem to have had a lot of downloads but very little server play and we have been putting it down to the SP support. To change the bot numbers is real easy, assuming you have BF2142 installed in its default location go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\FirstStrike\ai
And just follow the instructions contained in that file. Just open it with notepad. If you ever do play online though, make sure you have kept a copy of the original so you don't get a punkbuster kick from a FirstStrike server. As this is a mod only change it will not affect vanilla 2142.
Hope that helps!
Try going to options > controls and select reset to default. If that doesn't work, try left and right clicking on the scoreboard screen.
While we wait for MODDB to run the latest news relese, heres a quick update.
Some users have reported issues with their FirstStrike mods folder being deleted, and in extreme cases BF2142 folders. We have identified an issue with the 1021 hotfix, that has now been fixed so if you have had problems, please try again (deleting the 1021 hotfix if you already have it downloaded.
Also, for those waiting for the full 1.6 installer, that has now gone live! It is rather a large download so if you want go join us over the weekend, start downloading now! We're hoping that we will see a return of player numbers over the weekend, lets see if we can fill all the available servers! More details on the 1.6 files here:
two servers last time I looked. Check your server settings in game, make sure you select the centre tab (FirstStrike servers) and that along the bottom, only same mod and same version are ticked, then hit refresh.
Jumping on the rebel defiance server for a bit. If you are free then why not join me! Lets see if we can get enough players on to warrant turning off co-op and playing true mulitplayer conquest!
An update has been issued for the FirstStrike launcher/updater programme. This will now automatically enter the +widescreen normally needed by BF2142 when you set your chosen resolution. This should help many of those that have been suffering from a crash on startup. The FirstStrike launcher will automatically detect and install this update for you.
As much as we would love to continue, the hard facts are that the player base is dwindling for 2142 (and FirstStrike!) and with the impending EA release of Battlefront thats not going to help matters. Hoth has been in development for some time and we want to make it the best we can. There will no doubt be one or two other maps if we have time released with it though, and perhaps some small scale updates after that release to fix any issues. At the end of the day though, its only worth continuing as long as we have a player base and a mod team with the time and skills to do so.
I see a few people are still having a few issues. If people think it would help I am willing to put together an installation help video. Please respond if you would find this of some use.
Hm, looks like an issue with the FS.exe. The new launcher should be fixing these errors, but try this:
Hmm, the new launcher should be fixing the CD error, but try the advice here:
Hotfix released fixing the missing rocket launcher from heavy weapons kit!
If you have patched BF2142 to 1.51 you don't need an installation disk. Or is the mod telling you that you need one? If so, try using the new mod launcher from the news post above.
Been asked about setting up a FirstStrike server a couple of times. If there are people still interested, post over on the FirstStrike forums.
In a nutshell however, all you need to do is get a BF2142 server up and running then choose one of these options:
a) Download the FirstStrike 1.5 server files and follow the readme in there, the server files include their own server update which will download and install any updates for you automatically each time you restart the server: Fsmod.com
b) Copy your firststrike installation folder from your computer somehwere, eg desktop. Go through it and remove any zip file which ends in client, including those in the objects folder and from each level folder. Upload it to your server in to the BF2142 mods folder. More info can be found here: Forums.fsmod.com
Just put it in the bug reports area
I shall be on the server from around 2000 GMT all being well for those that want to join me. I have also set the server map list to play every single map in 32p size, remember though there are only 16 slots available. Bigger maps to run around though ;)
Yeas please post on the forums, and feel free to inform us of what you have done to fix the issue, perhaps its something we may be able to integrate to help other players.
Yes, we felt it needed a little extra time in order to bring it to a standard we were happy with releasing. I know, its been slated for release before, then canceled, then promised for release again and now canceled.. The team is quite small now and there was just so much work for us to deal with that faced with a choice between making an edited release, or holding everything until all maps were ready...well, we thought it was time all our fans got something new. So we held back dathomir and released what was ready.
Any chance you could post this in more detail on the forums? I'm sure I will be able to get you up and running if you are still having problems.
Sorry about the delay. Ok, so if I understand this right, you had issues with our original launcher, you then downloaded the one I linked to for george76? You installed this in to your firststrike directoy and overwrote the files? That could be part of the problem, they are two seperate programmes. As I said to george, you had to extract the new programme in to its own seperate folder.
When firststrike installs it will create two paths, one for the mod and one for the launcher (the mod goes to Electronic Arts/Battlefield 2142/mods/First Strike while the older launcher goes to programme files/ First Strike)
With the new launcher, you need to put it in to its own folder (eg programme files/FirstStrikeLauncher) then extract the contents. Once extracted, right click on the FirstStrikeLauncher .exe and hit send to desktop to create a shortcut there. Now go to the desktop and use the new launcher.
The only other things I can suggest are:
Make sure BF2142 has been correctly updated with 1.50 and 1.51 patches.
You can also if you wish try our newest version of the launcher. This is due to ship with 1.6 so I don't see a problem with letting it out now. It does not yet have an installer, merely contained within a zip file. Simply download the file then extract the contents to a folder called FirstStrikeLauncher in programme files. Link is here:
Hmm, well we have experienced a suspected website attack, so that may be interfering with the launchers ability to update itself.
We have a small item to test this evening, which should be our last item! After that we will once again switch the server back to the current mod version so be sure to join us for some games tonight from around 2100 GMT. Remember, this could be the last time you play first strike version 1.5!
soon (TM). Very very close now, think we have some final little issues sorted out. Probably just one or two more testing sessions, so we could be looking at release sometime in the next two weeks.
While the SP/Co-Op map selectable will show as 16p, I can assure you that the number of ships will be equal to a 64p sized map, giving lots of time to try and attack the freighters. Be careful though, the fighter screen can be pretty hectic and I've worked some special magic on automated defence turrets for the ai cap ships, making them very difficult to get close to.
1.6 will be new content plus some potential fixes for minor issues and will be issued as a patch via the mods updater. If you could tell me what issues you are having with 1.5 I may be able to help.
Apologies to those who tried to get on our server last night, we had switched it to the next release version to test some items out. This means anyone that tried to join would experience a crash as the mod files would not have matched. So if you tried to join, its not a problem with your installation, it is just because we were testing new stuff!
We'll try to give advanced warning next time, or change the name on the server to avoid confusion.
Make sure you have patched 2142 to latest version (origin doesn't do this for you. You need to do 1.50 then 1.51). Then install FS/try it again. If it still doesnt run then its just down to FirstStrike using an old version of the programmes .exe file. To fix it, simply go to your BF2142 folder in programme files and locate the FirstStrike.exe and the BF2142.exe which may be called BF2142Pace. Both of them are about 6900kb.
Now, delete the FirstStrike file, then copy the 2142 one anywhere you want. Rename the coped 2142 file to FirstStrike, then pop it back in to your folder. Now when you start the launcher it will find the new FS.exe which is the same as the BF2142 no cd one, and will start the mod.
See my post just a little up the way there ^
