Install BF2142. Now install the 1.50 and 1.51 patch (more information at rebeldefiance.clanteam.com including known working links for the correct patches).
After patching, install FirstStrike. Towards the end another installer will pop up, this is for the mods autoupdater. Allow the first programme to COMPLETE installation before beginning the updater installation.
Now run FS. If you still have issues, its probably down to a couple of things:
1) Using digital version you need to rename the FirstStrike.exe (instructions at rebel defiance)
2) Have not set resolution correctly (again see installation help)
3) Have not set server correctly for MP.
All solutions to these and many more can be found at the rebel defiance links page whcih contains a downloadable pdf with common issue fixes. There is also a help page on teh site for first time installation.
Sorry I can't go in to exact detail, but this is already a very large post just covering the basics, when there are dedicated sites linked to the mod that have all the info available.
Hope it helps
You just need to use the 1.50 and 1.51 patch.
and look under files and downloads. Should be a link to a help file which often has some fixes on. Also look under the installation help page.
What do you mean? The biggest problem was the complete lack of players :P
The server does seem to have been a little wobbly lately. I have taken a look at the logs and think I may have found something, which I have now corrected. Would be good if a few people could jump on to check stability tonight. Anyone interested in a few games, say around nine o'clock uk time?
Can you be more specific?
Try here for some help, the files and downloads page also has a help file to download
Ah...Got the problem.
We had issues with some items in the heavy weapons kit so had to make a different kit with the same weapons but programmed for bots. That kit is known as heavy_weapons_sp while the regular conquest one is heavy_weapons. The stats haven't got an updated image library to reflect the singleplayer kits which are also used in co-op. We should be able to *** an image in though.
Tested and the stats are now updating. Jump on now and earn some co-op points :)
Yes you can. I've looked in to it and found that the server did not have punkbuster on. Stats won't record without punkbuster. I've now turned it on so some people may have problems connecting tonight. Make sure you have manually updated punkbuster for your game.
No, you can use any name. The stats are taken from in game and will display your game name, but you can use any id for the forum.
Any stats that were not received by the server will not be updated, so I don't think we will be able to recover the starts from the beginning of the campaign. You can still earn stats by jumping on rebel defiance and playing the co-op maps which are currently running.
Hmm...looks like the stats haven't updated for a while as well..
Talon will be able to request the stats server be updated.
www.fsmod.com registration problems should now be resolved. Please try again and reply if you still encounter further issues.
Ok thank you. Currently looking in to it and hopefully will have it fixed asap.
I believe I have corrected the issues with registering at Rebel Defiance. Please try again if you wish to register and join the campaign and apologies to those who have had issues in my absence.
If you have issues joining the forums at www.fsmod.com then please post with the problem.
Hope to see you all out on the battlefield!
Ok, that should be better. Try the singleplayer now, it should be much better.
Ventrillo. Details are below. There is also a password that can be obtained from the FirstStrike forums, or by asking in game.
Sounds like you have not allowed FirstStrike to update. Have you run the bundled FirstStrike launcher/updater? It should download a couple of files, these will massively increase your SP enjoyment.
I'd love to see a big budget version of First Strike. The mod doesn't need heroes and plays well without them, though the bounty hunter kits seem popular at times.
Good space maps, perhaps with boarding on (and I don't mean the poor excuse that was in it before hand), real corridor by corridor clearance stuff.
Big mega ship space battles, such as around Endor.
Dice are well aware of the FirstStrike mod, so perhaps they will take some inspiration from our own maps and gameplay...
Ultimately though I think that the frostbite engine is very limited in some aspects, so I don't think we will see any epic space battles. EA's current sale model also means it will no doubt have a raft of downloadable content which they can charge extra for, whether that's map packs or character add ons and weapons.
Lastly, BF3 really annoyed me with the browser server search thing etc. I don't see why I need to have origin open plus a web browser to play a game. I really hope they address these issues, but if not I won't be buying the game as it will mean a crippled singleplayer mode and poorly realised multiplayer.
There is only one now. I have been forced to close down two due to lack of activity.
Yes, but to do a campaign takes time and effort. A lot of people signed up to the last one, but very few actually played. That means it was not really worth the amount of time I put in to building a site and forums, along with administering the campaign.
Also, the lack of player activity between campaigns would signal that there is little or no interest in running a second. If you want a campaign then there needs to be enough player activity to justify running it.
We generally play at weekends, but both the Firststrike home site and rebel defiance site have dedicated threads to announce if you are heading on the servers. This can sometimes be enough to bring out another couple of players.
You can also increase the numbers of bots by editing one of the mods files. If you are unsure about doing this, I can increase the bots on the servers co-op maps to make it more challenging.
Yes, the mod has some working co-op and singleplayer maps with bots.
If you install the mod you can still play regular 2142.
Jumping on now ahead of the campaign start :)
Don't forget, next round of the campaign kicks off at 8pm GMT, thats just an hour and a half away as I write! With both factions now controlling a galactic sector, these upcoming battles could be crucial in deciding the fate of the galaxy. Make sure you get online tonight to join us! We usually stick around for a few friendly games afterwards as well, so from around 2200 GMT newcomers to the mod may find this is a less objective focused time to come and ask some questions about how to play some of the maps.
See you all later!
Yup! So, get involved and support your campaign! The more players we see, the more likely we are to invest in larger servers, but we do need some community support to do that. If we start seeing this player increase during the week as well as at campaign nights, then I may even come up with a way of including those results in future campaigns ;)
As Talon and yone said, tehre are three servers up, all of which I have arranged and one of which can be donated to via Talons link. If you cannot see the servers then you have your settings incorrect. Please go to the website link and download our help file which will show you how to place your server settings to detect them. If they still don't show then I suspect you have not correctly updated BF2142. Again, the site can help guide you through this.
This weeks campaign rounds include Jundland Wastes, another key map. Victory here could stop the Rebels gaining further control. If they do succeed here, then nothing will be able to stop them launching their death star attack and taking control of the galaxy!
