It should be on the customs list for the North American servers as "War of Seven Temples" but I added a download from Moddb and Nibbits also.

For now it is a custom map with custom units, triggers, and some 2d art. I would like new art such as models for buildings and units or at least terrain textures and new skins to start with but I am not an artist and am not familiar with how to get them in-game.

If I find someone to help me out or to contract to pay for some art assets I will go that route if there is enough interest. For now the first order of business is releasing a finished product with some good gameplay and getting enough people to play it, not attempting to create some gargantuan total conversion that will never release.

There is a beta release you can download from battle.net if you do a search for "War of Seven Temples". I am working on a news post now to share the status of the mod.

Great comments guys, you have a lot of good things to say and please keep it up. You are right about the video being too early to show the real movement speeds and I imagine the final product would be a mix between your two ideas. Something slow enough for people to get that sense of helplessness from time to time and enjoy the beautiful environment but fast enough to give some fast action and not be too frustrating.

We have to keep going with this theme of light beams and stark shadows. It is a great atmosphere we need to carry into the other areas! Setting as desktop.

It is too dark to see the details of the fireplace. I have some ideas for improvements of the scene, but I imagine you just wanted to get a quick picture of the new fireplace in the game.

Great job with the projectors. I hadn't thought of putting them at angles like that but it looks more dramatic and interesting. The only thing I don't like is the ceiling texture being used on the floor but I know it's just a placeholder material and will change! Great angle by the way. I bet it took a while to get that perfect composition.

Ah yeah Dremth I suggested something like that also. His concept art is so good we were thinking of putting in the game in one form or another. Possibly secrets to unlock or it when you reach a certain area. Loading and splash screens are a great idea though!

ah those crab spider creatures with multiple eyes are perfect! I was afraid using spiders would be too cliche but you have created something fresh looking. We need a small enemy like that to creep out of holes and climb on the ceiling and walls. We can at least use a bloom effect to make the eyes interesting, and maybe try using dynamic spotlights that would come out of the eyes.

More than one color for the curtains is a great idea too. Maybe we can keep things consistent by using red on higher levels of the mansion and blue on the lower levels or something like that.

Very intriguing. I like the textures of the mushroom thing. From far away your mind can't tell if it's just roots of if it's something more evil like hundreds of dead bodies. Maybe both!

oh my god a grandfather clock, just what I always wanted! It looks a little bit stretched horizontally, but that may be from the camera's field of view, and it is very easy to change the scale.

They plan to replace everything with their own art assets. But what is your problem with them? They look good to me.

I love the little bad guys running down the stairs. They need some really great animation to bring them alive. I can just imagine several of them jumping around like little imps, running away from the player when they are scared and attacking when they get a big group together. I imagine them being mischievous and smashing priceless heirlooms to see if anything is inside...

What would be a more useful cause? I don't see the point of mapping for UT3 because to me the gameplay of the UT games got stale years ago. It is the same basic formula they had ten years ago with the original Unreal just with fancier graphics and some useless vehicles thrown in. That's not to say old games or gameplay is bad, It's just the simple strafe left right jump shoot mechanic of UT is no longer rewarding, especially after playing such amazing games as Tribes 2 or even the somewhat simple Gears.

If I were on a mod team that would make the gameplay more interesting I would consider mapping for UT3 but as it is now I am just a level designer. In addition to the weak gameplay I am not impressed with the art direction of UT3. What I saw were some rehashed Asian stuff, some ugly looking middle eastern architecture with tentacles and some generic urban architecture. Where is the motivation to create for a game with gameplay and art I don't like?

The PC Gears is pretty disappointing because of the bugs, windows live being a piece of garbage, almost total lack of support for custom content and very small community. However, there are serious benefits of being part of a small community. You can get to know people easier, your work stands out and you don't have to worry about it getting flooded away by other stuff like in the UT3 forums. Gears has a rewarding single player/coop experience unlike UT3, and I personally enjoy making single player maps more than multiplayer. It's also a lot more impressive to a potential employer having complex single player maps with scripted events than a bunch of run of the mill deathmatch or ctf maps like in UT3.

If you know of any other new unreal engine games that come with the editor and good single player game please tell me.
