Resident Evil 2: Destiny

Mod review

An excellently made mod that is a whole new Resident Evil experience.

The story, most assets, weapons, backgrounds, some enemies, are all a part of a new game. The mod is definitely a labour of love.

The game flows well, and allows the player to absorb the surroundings.
Additionally, the player is rewarded for playing smartly and searching for items, instead of running through it.

The issues I have are the mod's failure to find the save game file (most likely my fault), and the G-Virus parasite boss at the beginning. The boss seems inappropriate at such an early stage, but there's nothing really wrong with having a boss so early if that's what you're into.

The enemy placement and new weapons are exciting to use.

I recommend it.

Resident Evil: Mortal Night

Mod review

A lot of work has been put into the mod. It's obvious that it is a project of love and hard work.
However, hard work doesn't excuse poor design choices.
They are as follows:
* Minimal ammunition, even when you avoid several enemies and use the knife.
* Enemies placed near blind spots, so that you walk into them.
* FIVE Lickers in the hallway near the interrogation room!
* Nonsensical item placement.
* Running zombies (Super Zombies) that run thrice as fast as you. Also, they do not look different to the other RE3 asset zombies, so you can't tell if they are Super zombies or not until they sprint at you.
* Too few health items
* Too few ink ribbons, which are important, because you die often.

There's a whole new story, a stronger knife, skins, enemies, items, assets, and characters, but these are overshadowed by design choices I assume to make the game 'difficult'.

Using the knife so often is doable, but doing so is boring and time consuming. The game forces you to use it - even if you have ammunition, which you should do, because you know there'll just be more enemies soon.

Again, a lot of attention and work has been put into the mod, but it's too frustrating to complete. Thank you for all your effort, but I feel there's needs to be an update to attend to the previously stated points.

Give it a play if you're curious, but don't expect a well though-out and fair mod.

I don't like leaving negative reviews, because it's clear that the author has put a lot of time into this. Unfortunately, I feel this review is necessary.

I still can't believe there were five lickers in that hallway...

Streets of Rage 2

Game review

One of the greatest beat 'em ups of all time. A Well balanced and solid game that is great in co-op play too.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Game review

An amazing game that has likeable characters, solid combat, and interesting side missions. Only loses a point for the frustrating bosses.

Great game!

Two Worlds II

Game review

Forgettable plot, but interesting fighting style makes this game worth the play-through. The enemies, items, and ability to ride a horse make it more enjoyable, however it lacks a certain 'polish' that would have made it a classic.

TrackMania² Valley

Game review

A graphical improvement over previous Trackmania titles, yet it lacks the building potential and variety of Trackmania: United Forever.

The vehicle handles well in some parts, yet is excessively light resulting in the car flying when it runs into a barrier, or hits a small stone.

The environment itself is fantastic looking and adds a nice mix of 'Rally' and on-road driving. There does need to be more building blocks, but it looks like that will not happen.

Overall, the game is enjoyable, but it does need some added depth to make it a solid racing/building simulator, as well as a heavier vehicle.

Dead Space 3

Game review

Essentially a poor sequel that forgets its roots. The story is convoluted and uninteresting, the characters focus on melodrama rather than the fact that there's monsters trying to kill them, and the action is repetitive. There's no impact when hitting the enemies as they feel too light and hollow. There is even less tension as seen when fighting the human enemies.

I'm aware that the game is designed for the casual crowd, but things like fighting a giant mining drill was just ridiculous.

Pros:
Weapon customisation
Areas to explore

Cons:
Universal Ammunition
Story
Direction
Tension
Realism
Action
Kill Satisfaction
Uninteresting Characters
