exception.log. The crash dialog View Logs button should open a directory which contains exception.log

You should be on the highest version. It's just that none of the playtest servers seem to have been updated :(

Give the playtest a shot: Openra.res0l.net

No. Can you Pastebin.com the contents of exception.log? You can find it if you click 'View Logs' after the game has crashed. Github.com also has info on this. Also consider updating to the latest playtest if you are on an old version.

There's a bug in this playtest's Windows installer that causes it to install the mods into the wrong folder. As a temporary fix you can create a folder named 'mods' inside your OpenRA installation folder and move the ra/cnc/d2k folders inside mods.

This is likely a false positive.

Trees will be destroyed if you use enough force. Nuking them will work. Make sure you're using the latest version of the game too.
The current turreted unit setup is intentional, and extends past force fire. It's supposed to let you order your tanks to engage particular enemy units and retreat at the same time for example. You can get a unit to stop attacking if you use the stop key (S by default).
I suggest that you make a ticket for any outstanding issues. You can make tickets over at Bugs.open-ra.org

It's likely. We already support importing the original campaign maps, just not their mission logic.

You can do just as much in the C&C mod. Can you elaborate on your problems?

For now you can locate scores.mix (or whatever the filename is for the music) on your disc and copy it into the content folder which will be in an OpenRA directory in your home directory or documents directory depending on the OS.

Pretty much. RA/C&C/D2k are included.

Make sure you are using the latest version (Release 20130514, which as of writing is newer than the playtest versions). Please provide your game version and exception log (if it exists) using the steps outlined here: Github.com

Try turning on pixel doubling. You'll find it in the Display tab in Settings.

Support exists for the original music and videos - I have used them. Otherwise I don't know what you're trying to say.

Please go here: Github.com
Post your exception.log if the issue persists.

The game should give you the option to download a content package on first start (minus videos and music to reduce size) which is enough to play the game.

Please Pastebin.com the contents of exception.log and reply with a link to it here. See Github.com for details on doing this

It should accept the content, and you may be able to import some/most of the maps from the old INI format using the Import feature in the OpenRA map editor. But for the actual rules you'll need to recreate them with YAML files. See Github.com and Github.com for examples.
