Just wanted to say that the standard of work on this mod is incredibly inspiring. You guys are awesome! I hope you all have a great Christmas and a happy new year!

I know what you mean about the ai detail; in the beta it was vicious; and I mean nasty, they used nukes and really pumped out experimental units, even on easy settings.

Either that or they rushed you, I think they decided to make the ai easier. I n the demo I play mostly on medium and its easy enough that I can just mess about and play with the different units.

So they definitely made the comp stupider.

and dude if you can lose to the dumbed down dc ai on easy... well you need professional help

WOW is an evil subversive game and people lose their lives to it; also they make you pay by month and I swear If I could I'd eat the eyes of whoever came up with such a bloody horrible idea before me.

@detail: Did you play the original? cos lets face it, supcom is TA with a lick of paint; (and I'm not saying thats a bad thing) I dled the demo x) took me about 15 hours.

I love living in Australia... its rather like watching the earth with a big telescope from another planet and trying to work out what people are saying by reading their lips...

when is mid term for you?? I just started at Uni. so you can't be in Australia... (although you could be in western australia... but then they're as weird as queenslanders)

and you can get 3d max free? I guess most of it would be stripped own and quite basic? Can you still use it for modding though or do you actually need the one you can buy?

In other words, could I model tyranids for dow for free with gmax?

Seth it is actually in your best interest to be a little calmer, I know you've been looking forwards to this, but if you keep bugging the mod guys you could get banned from this site (at least I think so) at any rate they can delete your posts. If you want to make yourself heard try to be calm and to clearly express your ideas, it saves an awful lot of confusion and it also helps win people over to your point of view.
It also helps to be objective and think of the needs and concerns of everyone not just yourself, if you know what people want and how they think this helps you to empathise with them and to come to an agreement.

If you still find yourself getting worked up, doing it in front of a computer is the worst way to go about it; you should think about talking up a sport or a martial art, or channelling all this excess energy into some kind of art, poetry for instance.
I'm not trying to get at you and I understand how you feel, I think everyone does, but we need to be patient and supportive of the mod team.

All computer gear is a rip off... how much do you think it costs to make a disc?? a few cents at most maybe a dollar and then they charge 90 bucks for a new game or hundreds for graphic design programs.

All this to say I'd love to help but its all the fault of the corporations... and my reticence to relinquish my capital.

anyway I can't believe that all the awards went to other mods; it is "teh lame" the best mod award doesn't go to the "best mod" it goes to the game that the most people play. grrr...

I'm back!!
had a good week down at the coast, although I was pretty sure that Australia was supposed to be sunny??? frigging weather, it rained like three out of 6 days. Here we are with all these water restrictions in place and it decides to rain for once when it ought not to... "grumble".

In short I'm back a day early, and I did try and read through all the pages that were written but at page 2/3 I had to stop because onthe one hand my brain felt like it was being juiced and on the other hand I was getting déjà vu: some of these posts are like recurring nightmares.

it sounds like you're already way ahead of me though (on to the problems stage), so; is it not working after the installation? as in failing to start?
make sure that; you are installing on winter assault, not dark crusade and that you haven't modified any original files.

If it still doesn't work its possible that when dc was installed, it patched winter assault as well; and if the patch is incompatible with the mod it won't work, if this happens the only thing you can do is reinstall the game.

I'm downloading the mod as we speak so I can see if I have the same problem.

Stype I've looked into pretty much every mod out there and probably one of the best (and one of the only) completed mods is the steel legion mod which lets you play as an alternative Imperial Guard army with a heavy prussian theme; in fact what you can do is download midnight shift (which includes the steel legion) and kill two birds with one stone.

Problem is that its only been released for Winter Assault but if you want a new race then its definitely worth a look.

As for Daemon Hunter and Witch Hunter mods; well the work looks stunning but theres nothing to download yet

I'm sorry my seemingly harmless post has caused such consternation, detail, I know they can't put the hierophant titan in because its far too large: they even said as much on the wiki on their big page of "things we aren't including". what I am saying is that the pic looks like a hierophant's head regardless of what fafnir actually is.

I just checked again to make sure:

the head is underslung in the same sort of way, and the jaw juts too far to be a hierodule when you compare them although the wiki pic lacks horns...

I dunno it could of course be something that was invented by the modteam!! mwahahahaha lets face it who wouldn't want to make their own??

and I still think you could put in a phant: it would have to be in a one off campaign level where the map was designed especially to "show it off": eg. nice and flat.

well this might ruin it for some people but project fafnir seems to be a hierophant bio-titan you can take a peek on the forgeworld website. I would post a link but I can't be arsed, besides I can't work with html.

I just don't see how they'd include it as it is one big sucker, also on the nid wiki they were saying that they'd though of adding phants, or even baby-phants but had decided in favour of the trygon as they were just too big.

that said I would bet my right arm (which I require for many vital functions) that the pic was a hierophant.

ironically seth, orks who are supposedly a horde army actually have fewer men than a normal army: I will elaborate; lets take the example of guardsmen: if I buy ten units of guardsmen with leaders at 2 pop cap a piece and there are 14 men per squad I end up fielding 140 guardsmen, orks on the other hand count their pop cap not by squad, but by man, so a 14 strong boyz squad is actually worth 14 pop cap.

This is why orks have much more pop cap. but at best they can only field 100 men and if they take nobz (10 for the starting squad 2 for each nob) they end up fielding far fewer. this means that an ork army at the end of a game is often smaller than the other dow armies, although I will concede that they have the number advantage at the start.

I know all this because my brother plays orks and is constantly bitching about it

I only watched the nightmare before christmas once when I was really young and my mum reckoned it was far too macabre (although to be honest I enjoyed it thoroughly); you can't hide ugliness from children though because sooner or later they'll see the world as it really is!!

In conclusion parents let your kids play violent games!! isn't it funny how people think games make ppl more violent?? I mean I'd say its more of a (limited) creative outlet for all that antisocialism... although apparently tv does have adverse effects to shildren's mental health... there are an unbelievable amount of kids capping themselves and their buddies in the good ol' US of A and on that depressing note I'm off to drink tea in a dark house at 2 in the morning... and you can say the name of the movie, just not 3 times in a row, I love Tim Burton films, but I reckon his comical representations of death may hide a rather morbid fascination/terror with/of it.

as for when the mod will be out in beta form, we've all got to be patient; a general rule when waiting for something that has a release date is to never expect it to be out when they say it will be, I'm not being cynical or gripey, it's true: when have you ever arrived somewhere without at least one delay when you catch a plane??

all this to say it will be done when its ready ;) and also I advise you all to VOTE FOR THIS MOD because I remember either skibby or caveman mentionning that if they win they will have some serious motivation to release to their adoring fanbase!!!

I went to a cheap all night movie marathon in a cinema that was closing down with a friend; we were slightly tipsy and I was seriously dosed on caffeine, she fell asleep near the start and woke up a movie or two later; leaving me to wince at the cheesy effects all by myself (to be honest it did make me jump a couple of times, but the special effects were mostly on a par with the original doctor who).

Great fun... although my eyes were kinda messed up for days afterwards...

lol nids... easily, the others even bugs and zerg aren't nearly as numerous, I remember reading in my now out of date codex that termagants were sometimes sent prior to assaults to simply expend the enemies munitions!! And yes I know in SST the bugz make a kind of ramp from dead bugz; but they come from 1 planet whereas there are countless nids. A Hive fleet would wipe the floor with them; also the nids have psychic powers mind powers 8<) !!!

that said it would be kinda cool to smack them all together in one big room and tape the carnage

nidmeister; I respect your devotion to the tyranids, and I know the Tau mod pre-dates DC (I also know they don't intend to simply copy and paste models), what I meant more was that they had a source for inspiration; conversion etc...
And how exactly are the Tau not anime??? I mean I look at them and go: "Japanese", big robots!! Godzilla!! explosions!! weird dubbing!! (ok I think I'll halt my analysis of Japanese culture).
The tau mirror the Japanese even their philosophy is fairly close (ok so its taoist and not strictly speaking japanese) The only thing that really sets them apart is the kroot (and they're really just auxiliaries

well actually relic have said many times that there will be no new expansion and that they won't be making a tyranid expansion for "dow" (although they never said they weren't making a dow 2).
