the invisibility uses the same mechanic as the smoke grenades, it works best against the AI, which won't detect cloaked units unless fired on

Fun fact - none of the weapons I originally ported were using bump or specular maps, because I was too ignorant to know what to do- so I'll be properly formatting those through!

Hey all, no worries, I'm still kicking.

So we have our weapon resources, the next trick is to adapt them for some of CTA's visual enhancements. For instance CTA weapons have droppable magazines and animated bolt cycling. I'm a bit rusty, but we're gonna find out how well I can get those adapted

Its a testament to the unending patience and support of our watchers that even now, you all are still coming to our very neglected page. I'm very appreciative of you all still showing up- and it also guilts me quite a bit lol.

There's no denying, development for WC has definitely downgraded a bit. Owing largely to the IRL commitment of the teams, and the soul destroying revelation that our 3+ years of content got obsoleted with just a handful of CTA updates (good updates mind you, but it still put us out of business)

Imagine putting nearly 8-10 hours a day for 3 years into making something, and waking up one day and finding that not only will your stuff no longer work, the techniques you used to create it won't work either. That's the hard truth we had to face last year, and its definitely put our work into an uncomfortable limbo

I know it sounds like an excuse, but it can't be understated how much CTA has changed and improved in such a short time. These changes in how coding is handled, to how humanskins are generated have opened some huge opportunities for us, but it has also made our existing content unusable.

That coupled with our burgeoning adulthood and dwindling freetime have made things slow considerably. So I'd be lying if I said we've got a timeframe or scheduled updates planned.

It would be equally UNTRUE to say the mod is dead though- its more that we're in the process of rebuilding- and its about as interesting as watching people salvage broken houses after a tornado.

I can confirm a couple things we accomplished, one Apone has achieved godhood, and has replaced nearly all vanilla animations seemlessly with way better tacticool ones.

Also at the end of last year- I managed to restore functionality to our Spartan humanskins, with some additional improvements.

Speaking for myself, my biggest hurdle is just figuring out where I can start re-development- there's many things to do and it can be daunting to approach.

Giving it some thought, I've considered working on getting our UNSC arsenal of weapons back online- by which I mean re-export/re-write programming for the human guns, and gradually get those all working again in CTA.

To that end, I make no promises, but I may start posting renders of that progress here, if any are interested.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. You pretty much hit the nail on the head- our development is rather dependent on the state of CTA updates, and sometimes we've simply had to wait for a pause before pursuing more advanced developments. It hasn't helped that I've just started my career, and its often tricky to find time to work. But I'm still very much committed to this mod, as is everyone in our team.

This past year was alittle rough- i was working full time with no PTO, which made it difficult to find any time to put solid hours into dev work.

I'm pleased to say i've been hired directly to my company now, which means i can now earn time off and actually take vacations, which will make it easier for me to get work done. Apone has made some really awesome developments on the backend, and i have been working on getting our existing content up to speed.

I'm getting close to finishing the update to our spartans for CTA's framework. Once we've gotten clear of that, my hope is to assist Apone with the Marine Redux, as well as a much needed overhaul to ODST's which really haven't changed since 2015!

Yup. We're aware that Cta has reached version 1.0,and we'll hopefully resume work soon. However, the update-tide has not abated just yet. Since 1.0 there have been ~7 updates to the 1.0 build lol.

lol, this page is starting to look alittle like r/totalwar.

Sorry about the information block everyone. I've been meaning to answer your questions, but its been alittle busy on my end.

First of all, we appreciate all the supportive comments, and I personally also appreciate the constructive criticism some of you have leveled.

It is true, as passion-project modders, we're not under contract, and our words shouldn't be taken as commitments. That said, I know what I've said to you all, and I take ownership of it, even when I'm wrong.

So yes. As you all have noticed, its the end of January, and there's no demo posted. I know I said late december/early january for a release goal. That was not a promise, and we have always avoided setting dates because we are not in a position to make promises.

But we do like our community, and we want to be on your good-side.
So when I make a timeline that ends up being wrong, you can be sure I'm as frustrated with myself as you might be with me.

And I say ME because I'm the one that wrote last year's roadmap, so don't ANYONE get mad at Apone or CGF, you can direct any internet raeg at me.

And before you get mad at me, I feel its worth pointing out that every one of our other goals for 2017 was not only met, we made new advancements I didn't even predict.

So here's the short story:

CTA's updates have caused some compatibility issues.
Ironically, because CtA has improved in several ways, some of our previous work has become obsolete.

That is good thing, since it improves overall quality, and has lead to some really cool advancements, but its also an obstacle, as we've had to update or simply re-make our content. I've definitely learned this the hard way, as I'll be re-compiling much of the UNSC roster this spring, to bring the troops in line with Cta's new unit frameworks.

And that's more or less why the demo is taking longer than I said it would.
Around December, we realized that key content we had originally planned to use, was obsolete, and might not even work.

To address this, we decided to make completely new content for our demo.

Apone, Buzztron and CGF have all put in significant time and effort since mid-december to produce a new map, new humanskins, and brand new mechanics and a mission for you all.

Key content is still in progress, and although we had hoped to still make the January goal, things still need to be worked on. This has all been on top of continued development of the overall mod, and IRL stuff.

I can't promise when you might see a release, if only because I don't want to under-deliver again, but since things are taking longer, we have been discussing ways to expand on our original demo concept, and you may end up seeing more stuff in the demo than we were originally planning.

So I hope that answers some of your concerns. If you feel more relaxed, we appreciate your understanding. If you're still salty, I get where you're coming from. If you feel the need to rage at us, save your breath, because we already know what we're doing good, and what needs work.

WC is thriving right now, even if we're all too busy to make pics of it. And hopefully we'll have more to show for that soon, so that you know we're committed to the project and the community,

and so people stop asking me if the mod is ded lol.

The demo is coming for real. If its late, feel free to blame me. Like a smart person I put off getting my flu shot, with hilariously predictable results. I've been working on stuff between flu recovery.

Its especially ironic because the company I work for manufactures needles for flu shots.

Apone, Buzztron, and CGF have all been working on furnishing content, and I've been trying to keep it organized into a stable build. We're in progress with a few more things, and are working to complete it. More details will emerge as we get closer to finishing it.

With any luck, you won't have to wait til next December for it lol

But for real. No need to panic. Mods not being cancelled. I'm literally married to this project.

Its still my goal to put out some content this december/early january.

That's not a promise- because I had a close call in traffic yesterday, and I still haven't gotten a flu shot. So if I die or something, that might set us back.

The team will be getting together soon, and we'll figure out what content we can put into a demo, get it organized, and put it out- I think everyone here has kinda given us and idea of what they were looking for, and I'm confident we can deliver.
