I don't know why but when I try to play this mod I have no crosshairs. I can't aim, so this pack makes the game completely unplayable.

How do I re-enable crosshairs?

I recall among the problems I had with SMP 2.4 were a couple of weapon balance/realism issues.

There were battle rifles. Mosin, Mauser, G43, Springfield 03, M14, but they had NO accuracy. You'd be better off sniping with a shotgun and slugs.
What the hell?
Especially the M14 DMR and AWM. Those two have pitiful accuracy for "sniper" rifles.
I amended these problems by going into the scripts and basically making them a dozen times more accurate than they were. Because one of the big advantages of old battle rifles over assault rifles is that they can out-range a 5.56/7.62x39 or 5.45 gun any day of the week. If they have pathetic accuracy, that just makes them plain useless.

Then I ran into the 7.62x39 guns. What happened here? Why are they always more accurate than 5.56 and 5.45 guns? The Russian army switched to 5.45 in order to get better accuracy, why is this suddenly backwards? This necessitated more script-editing which took a long time since there are around 10 skins for the AK-47 alone. But in the end I gave them less accuracy but more power to make up for it.

I'd post a .zip file of all of the script edits I did so you could take a glance at them but I did this a while ago and have since then experienced a hard drive failure. I hope to see some changes in the characteristics of weapon power/accuracy along these lines in 2.5, if not I'll have some tweaking to do.

Saxonswine posted earlier that one option would be a community made skin pack to tack on to this mod that changes some of the newer weapons to older ones to better keep with the theme and I think that would be a great idea.

Also with the time theme the original they hunger had an SL8 and a TEC-9 variant (AA something, I forgot the exact designation)so I think they went for the Napoleon Dynamite effect where the setting looks dated because they're out in the boonies.

Level design was fun, atmosphere was lively, it deviates from most other mods but the story is confusing and gameplay isn't all that challenging.

Only issue I can forsee with this mod is that They Hunger is set in the 1970's or at least it has that overall theme going on. I'm a bit of a stickler for period-accurate weapons so a P90 would seem out of place for me. Then again maybe they just pulled off the Napoleon Dynamite effect where it's set in modern times but it just looks like it's 1977 because you're out in the boondocks.
Also it's really nice to see that some people have a healthy appreciation for battle rifles. I never see them in other mods. Just snipers and assault rifles with nothing in between.
That and if They Hunger is in fact set in the 60's or 70's battle rifles would be very period-accurate.
