Due to me running off and getting married and then honeymooning for a few weeks, the Black Sierra developers are in need of a sound designer.
If any of you guys are interested then send me a message. We need someone to work on sounds effects over the next couple of months and then work alongside me (Or even take over if your stuff is better than mine) on finishing sound effects for the game.
We don't need a music composer as I have finished all that work for the demo and onwards so don't bother asking me.
I have been using the sister version of this wrapper which does the same job but RTAS plugins and I have to say its a really reliable (and handy) tool and for £70 its an absolute bargain!
I think turen1234 is being a bit harsh, its a good attempt. You could do with some more dynamics in it perhaps some crescendo and diminuendos in places to add more colour and the ostinati in it perhaps could be stuck into another voice and made softer. Like I say its a good attempt.
I was the lead tester for Sibelius First and its great to hear people using it!
Just to let you all know that I am not dead and that I have been busy moving house and a load of other stuff. I am back on the job again and have been busy working on Black Sierra Mod stuff as well as a few other bits and pieces.
I have just added a new track to the mod called The Hive - In the Sewers hope you like it.
I may even if I have some time think about writing some tutorials for Sibelius if anyone is interested in how to use it!

Just discovered an incredible new instrument that you should check out. I have added a video and a little blurb about it on my profile so check it out. :)
So how do you go about spacing your sounds in accordance to the position of the orchestra. Is it assumed you are sitting in the center of room so therefore the first strings are panned slightly to the right and second strings to the left. And then any brass are timed slightly later as they are further back.
I would love to see an example file in pro tools or a screen shot to see how its done.
Well I work for a Music Software company so I can get them on the cheap. Just looking into it now at the moment. Also been looking at the Spectrasonics - Omnisphere VSTi which looks incredible!
I use Pro Tools a fair bit and have just started using it for brass instruments and about to work on a track with strings in it so I will see how that goes. I have been mainly using Sibelius for orchestral stuff so far so it's going to be interesting to see how it works out.
How exactly do you get your gliss. and trems to sound decent? I find they sound terrible on Sibelius?
I'm very impressed with your stuff. I haven't heard anyone else yet using Orchestral works for mods around here. Do you use Sibelius/Finale? it sounds like you do?
The compression is a bit over the top and I agree on the repetitive guitar part.
However, the drums are nice an' dirty which gives a good effect to the piece. The slow part as well has a nice build up to it, kinda reminds me of Porcupine Tree a bit.
Nice use of Panning. I am currently working on a space themed piece and this has given me a few ideas what to do with it as I had hit a brick wall with it.
Straight out of a 80's American Family film about a child who has an adventure. Your orchestration is really good I love the arppegiated strings and the use of Brass.
Not sure why but I kept thinking about the Happy Mondays when the drums kicked in. It's a lovely piece though you can really feel the chilled mood in it.
Not sure vertigo is the best title for it though as I would expect something more jarring.
Sorry I haven't been around been busy working on some new tracks for mods. I was just wondering if anyone knows what file format a music file has to be to add it to a Half Life mod? Is it MP3 at 44.1 KHz?

Thats a very sexy rig if I might say so myself!

He's actually urinating in there!

I try and give a comment to most pieces unless I have nothing really constructive to say.

The beginning reminds me off something out of Blade Runner. Is this using the atmosphere vsti? as well as other bits?

Wow cheers for that. I currently use GPO with a dash of SIR reverb as my main sound set but I will definitely look into VSL.
Just had a look at Atmosphere as well which Sounds good. Is it difficult to use?
Would you recommend anything for brass sounds I currently use the Garritan Big Band set and I think it sounds a bit naff.
I use Pro Tools a fair bit and have just started using it for brass instruments and about to work on a track with strings in it so I will see how that goes. I have been mainly using Sibelius for orchestral stuff so far so it's going to be interesting to see how it works out.

Awesome theme tune and really well produced. This is what I aim for.
I do hope this mod actually gets made just so I can hear these tracks in game. You certainly know your way round sample libraries.
Expect many questions from me in the future.
Wow! Just..... Wow!

Now that is good. I Love those strings what did you use and how did you do it? I must know!

What did you use to write this piece?
Nice use of Panning. I am currently working on a space themed piece and this has given me a few ideas what to do with it as I had hit a brick wall with it.

Although, Bloody well finish something m'boy ;)
