Ok...I was considering not returning to the Mod DB because of the recent...Changes..But,I owe so much to this site, and to all the people who have supported my mods, I've come back.
There will be updates to ALL my mods soon.
I've given quite a bit of thought as to the design of the attic area, the most changed section of the ride.
Should it be the updated version, with the 5 paintings, and the new bride, or the classic, with pop-up ghosts and the original bride?
Both layouts are really complicated, with a lot of things like chairs...That don't look good in Doom.
I guess, in the end it'll be a combination of both...And neither one, really.
You'll see.
Well...Yes, and no. That's what I do when I give my game to friends, but I'm not sure if that would be OK for the public.
I guess I'd have to get permission from Randy to do that. But yeah, I had thought about it.
Actually, I'm not sure if it'll ever "break" again, with changes to Zdoom, but I have been chastised for using "old" language in my decorate files, whatever that means.
Oh well...That's what I get for taking over a decade to make a simple game.
That's a good question...How long will it take.
I couldn't estimate, but I'll keep everyone informed in progress.
I suppose it depends on what the interactive/game version will include. The pencil-sketch idea I have now, is a mystery of some sort, with a widowed old woman, her butler, maid, and caretaker in a spooky mansion.
I thought about getting into detail...Trying to explain all the features of the mansion in the plot, but I doubt most of it would, or could fit into my little game. I mean, the house itself would go back a hundred years or so, and the old widow had 5 husbands.
But, I do have a few ideas...The hardest part, is making a whole new map/level based on the classic Mansion, the early concepts, and a floor plan of a real house. Kind of a "real" Haunted Mansion, for the player to explore. The small map I have now wouldn't make a good game. I expect the "game" map to be 3 times as big.
If I get really into it,I might make the outside as well. I have patterns, so it would look even better than the inside, and just as accurate.
The basic map, for the "movie" and "ride" versions, what you see now, will be done before December, I'm sure.
Well, right now, it takes about 6 min. to go through the whole thing(the original ride lasts 12 min).
I never played the video game you're talking about, but no, it'll never be a 3-D shooter-type game.
More like a puzzle-horror kind of thing. When I do the interactive version, it'll be longer, but no, it's not really a playable "game". It's a re-creation. Just to look at.
If you enjoy it, or not is up to you.
I hope you do, though.
If you click on the "Homepage" link, you'll see I've updated my page, with a mini forum, and a download link.
Hey,Doomhunter.
I remember when I was 12...About a 100 years ago. :)
Would you like to see my newest Mod? It's based on the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.
Ok...I realize the game hasn't worked for awhile now, so I've uploaded a fixed version.
HOWEVER...The "errors" that have stopped anyone from playing the game were due to changes to Zdoom, not because of problems in the game itself. From now on, I will NOT update the game every time Zdoom changes.
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE Zdoom. If it wasn't for the tremendous amount of work Randy Heit (and others) have put into it, I'd have gotten nowhere. But,for the most part, this game is retired, and won't be updated anytime soon(ModDB..PLEASE don't archive me) So, eventually this game will only work with older versions of Zdoom.
Having said that, I WILL still respond to requests for help in playing the game. I'm not retired, but sadly DrDoomZ is. After nearly 14 years of work, I'm sick of it.
To all those watching....I am sorry...But that's about it.
Look for updates to H-L Zdoom, GOBLIN, and my newest game Haunted Mansion Zdoom.
Don't confuse pre-Zdoom Wolf-mods with this one. Sure...People have taken the Wolf GRAPHICS and made doom(or ZDOOM) Mods before, but this is clearly different.
It's not easy improving on classic games, without destroying the "feel" of it.
This looks like a winner. I'd like to see this one completed.
Mr. J
OK.
Let's see...
(1)
"Nice, just how can I play the game?
I download Zdoom, added the wad file, and now what? I can't run it.. "
-Do you have the full version of DOOMII? If so, you just use a .bat file with the line:
ZDOOM zHLD2.wad
That should do it.

"hey, whatthe ****,after i reach xen bang level 1 again, and the scientist aren't shootable, and what's with the holywood holocaust from duke nukem?it's avreage"

"Is there a gravity gun mod for UT2004 ? "
-...Uh...
? What...? :P
Are you new? I don't think I've seen you before.
Thanks for watching my mod.
Mr. J
I've started on map 8, the "xen" level, and it's about %20 done.
Just like the original game, I've changed the gravity to simulate near-weightlessness.
You thought the crates were tough to jump....
This is a killer!
Mr. J
OK...i think map 9 is all done.
It's a bit short, and very odd, but it's playable.
You start underground, in a system of pipes leading to a river of chemical waste.
After boarding a tiny boat, you slowly float past troopers and bullsquid shooting at you.
The Grinch needed a ZDOOM skin, so he looked around, but since ZDOOM skins were scarce, there were none to be found.
Did this stop The Grinch? No, he just said;
"If I can't find a ZDOOM skin...I'll make one instead."
True story...Really.
J
Hey, I'll help you out with the Duke textures.
Just send me a message.
Return to me, my Harald! The hunger is once again upon me!
Dr Noob........
Please explain this to me.
J
Ummm...It's been so long, I forget. I think I used a tool called gameripper (GFE.exe), and a program that was made custom just for me by Lobo called Half-life to Doom, but you can use the standard half life model viewer.
I pulled the models from the H-L file(pac) and posed them in front of a cyan background.
...As I recall.
Jeremy
I think this is great. At first, I thought you guys were going to sell modDB tee-shirts, or something...
But this is better.
J
In the Doom community, there have been many one-game to another conversions...
Duke Nukem to Doom, Shadow Warrior to Duke, hexen(or Heretic) to Doom, and many others.
This was my first mod, started many years ago. I had completed the first level, and all the sprites, sounds, and something called dehacked, which changed the way the game engine worked. Then came Zdoom.
The original sprites were about 48 pixels in resolution, and the wall textures were 128 maximum. The Zdoom game engine changed that dramatically. Now, the sprites are about 190 pixels, and texture can be just about any resolution on a wall, or a floor. Game scripting was also added, and many other features bringing Doom out of the "DOS" dungeon, and up to date with more modern games.
If you haven't already, try all my games, Doctor Doom Z, Half Life Zdoom, and GOBLIN.
...this aint' you little brothers DOOM. Now, your playin' with Zdoom!
I think I know what you mean....If you're not careful, the colors come out wrong.
At first, I used an old tool called DmGraph. But, now I use deepsea. That's the easyist way to keep the colors right, although even that doesn't work all the time.
Damn 256 colors! And, like 18 of those are black, white and gray!
Jeremy
I must have been playing in a low screen resolution when I took the pic. Sorry about that.
Yeah...Good work.
...still not as good as mine, though. He he. :)
Mr. J
I think so...Although The player skin isn't green, so everybody would look the same.
And, there might not be 8 player starts everywhere, but yeah, I wanted it to be good for teamplay, deathmatch, and regular play.
...Oh, and thanks. Yeah, I thought it captured the sprit of H-L.
Jeremy
I just use a text editor.
I learned everything I know by looking at other peoples decorate files, but I still have a lot to learn.
Yeah, I've attempted to do that before, and I've seen it done many times.
Did you have something in mind?
MrJ?
