Thief: The Black Parade

Mod review

I am in awe. This is a genuine work of art.

Captivating, exhilarating, and frightening.

Each mission felt like part of a greater and seamless world, full of secrets and surprises.

Please, play this.

Entropy : Zero 2

Mod review

Absolutely incredible - I was more excited to follow this plot than most "fully fledged" games this year.
What an accomplishment, a massive thank you to the developers for this experience.
I am speechless! A must play for any Half-Life fan.

Please do not forget to take Wilson with you.

SIGNAL LOST

Early access mod review

This is incredible, and it has the atmosphere I wished I had been able to conjure in Half-Life: Echoes. The sound design is exceptional, and the mood is fearsome.

The Half-Life Alpha aesthetic never particularly appealed to me but this repackages it as this bizarre Half-Life adjacent - something that never was but feels so familiar. Like a second hand retelling of your favourite story.

I cannot wait to see (and hear) more.

Local Motive: Definitive Edition

Mod review

A lovely vertical slice of classic Half-Life 2 gameplay and what makes it great. I really enjoyed this!

Further Data

Mod review

Loved it. I don't think I have played Uplink in over a decade but this was such a good tribute that I recognised and was reminded of every area and set piece. I particularly loved the infestation and how it progressed throughout the mod. Fantastic work!

TWHL Tower 2

Mod review

A wonderful collection of ideas and fun concepts. I love risk taking maps. It felt like a condensed nostalgic trip over the history of Half-Life modding. Some maps made me laugh out loud, some made my head spin with the complexity involved in such a small space. I love collaborations like this. I feel gutted I did not consider joining in!

Raven Keep

Mod review

Absolutely wonderful.

Stirring visuals, great exploration, interesting progression and fun (but not too hard to find) secrets.

A perfect little evening adventure!

Half-Life: Sum

Mod review

I wish my brushwork looked like yours!

I previously felt that HTC was the best of the three mods linked together here, but as a whole it comes together nicely. I greatly enjoyed this, and it is such a treat to look at. To be cliche, short but sweet :)

Half-Life: Anti-Climax

Mod review

There is not much to add over what everyone has said - I really really enjoyed this.
I am such a fan for unique and different setups from the norm in a mod.
This mod has a fun little mechanic, and reminded me more of something that came out 15 years ago. A time when you might get easily lost, and have to experiment by trial and error to succeed and understand the authors intention.

If this were a longer mod, the lack of direction would be hindering, but in such a small contained set of spaces - I just felt it worked.

I look forward to more :)

Autonomy Lost

Mod review

Incredibly detailed mapping - the various inaccessible walkways and ventilation shafts gave the impression of a much larger game space.

The gameplay was a bit mixed, although I did enjoy the challenge. Sometimes, enemies were places far enough away that they couldn't attack, and some enemies were placed in large open areas which required some more classic run and gun gameplay. I feel it was an attempt to mix up traditional Half-Life gameplay (and really, if you are still playing HL mods after 20 years a shake up is very welcome!) but in some cases it did not work as intended.

The plot was very thin - but I loved the descent into the complex and the various scripted events and unseen horrors.

A very solid map pack - and I very much look forward to more :)
