Mad about game development! I am looking forward to a career in the games industry after I graduate my degrees. Also mad about C&C, the old ones.

Report article RSS Feed Progression and phase 1 goals

Posted by Mortecha on Mar 3rd, 2012

Things have been going smoothly over the last couple of days.

Ok so the immediate goals at the moment to consider phase one complete are as follows:

- Model 1060's era themed units influenced but not exact copies of equivalent real life counterparts where applicable, not to constrain creativity of hypothetical vehicle designs of factions and technologies within an alternate 1960's universe. All while maintaining an acceptable and believable level of realism while not being too realistic that it impacts the level of enjoyment or ridiculously unrealistic that playing the game makes you feel stupider after you play it. Its all about balance while maintaining the all important escapist fun factor.

- Light Truck (for scouting and fighting infantry)
- APCs
- Light Tanks
- Medium Tanks
- Heavy Tanks
- Bomber (for select and target bomb runs)

For four factions.

By any chance will there be Turboprop driven aircraft/fighters too? :3
I have some inspired/original designs in mind.

I havn't really though of the Aircraft yet, though I was going to mimic the color schemes used in RA3 for the USA, they seem too stick out really well. Though for other nations I am going to take inspiration from their governing real life countries.

I cant see why there cant be some prop aircraft in the mix. I mean the original Yak was a prop aircraft. Was going to be definitely taking influences from the Tupolev Tu-95 and the B29 as well.

Cool! so what theme each faction will have in their respective designs...I noticed that its 50's and 60's tech on some of the vehicles you've posted so far...Is it alternate real world or completely another universe?

Also there was still plenty of prop aircraft being used in Vietnam, some really cool ones actually and don't forget the Mustangs' and Sea Furys'. I look forward to seeing what sort of concepts you come up with:)

I got a turboprop bomber in the making! Its has its inspirations roots from the B-29/Tu-95 and sky crawlers.

Also do you have MSN? Its been ages since I last seen you.

I'm liking what I am seeing:) By having two engines instead of four, it seems like its a lighter bomber

This is actually perfect for targetable airstrikes. This is because if the aircraft was any bigger, it will have to be scaled down further, kind of making it look odd as the scales between ground vehicles and aircraft will be too far apart.

Are you keen to focus on the aircraft of this hypothetical mod:P

Also, I mainly just use Facebook and sometimes Google+. Now I think of it Google+ would be perfect to house inter-mod communication, Unless we can secure a forum space here.

Actually it has the fuselage length of the B-29 with 2 large turboprops and jet engine nozzles in the rear of the nacelle. you may want to resize if you need to.

As for my modeling role...I do best at making aircraft though I'm as capable of modeling other vehicles and ships as well. I'm also working on my TC mod for SupCom:FA so my activity may be sporadic.
So I'm just freelancing as a helping hand ;)

As for securing a forum here: you can create a private forum here if create a developer group and set its view settings to member's only. Example of a private dev forum: Moddb.com

I personally don't have a Facebook.

What game engine are you planning to mod? is it C&C 3 or RA3?
I mod Supreme Commander since it's true to world scale is perfect for life size superweapons and intensive scale combat. regardless of what engine it is, I still look forward to it :)

Definitely RA3, I have always wanted to make it fun to play, and also make it more like the originals in my own way. I appreciate your enthusiasm because I am looking forward to it too:)

Alright then^^ anywho whats kind of art style are you aiming for? I don't want to texture models too realistic in terms of detailing.

Probably go for something similar to the German bomber :) But there is a good chance I will be changing textures in the future.

Will be redesigning all of the current tanks, the German ones need more WW2 influence and look too modern for the designed era, and the American ones need to not be completely influenced by real life tanks. The sheridan was light, but was never a light tank. Main gun was 152mm and even fired missiles!
