I mostly play strategy games and RPGs, with the occasional action or indie game.

Bellum Imperii

Mod review

Fantastic so far, with room for improvement. It's already fun to play, but could join the ranks of Brytenwalda, TLD, and the other top ranks of Warband mods. If you like the Roman era, give this mod a try!

Total War: Rome II

Game review

In 2019, this is still an amazing Total War game. Forget the troubled launch--it's been patched and fixed and updated into genuine excellence. I've played 74 hours and found barely a bug or glitch, and at medium-high graphics settings it runs pretty well on my 2012 laptop and looks very good. It's not perfect: the political system is awkwardly presented and incompletely explained. But when it works, it does lead to some exciting, unpredictable moments that still feel fair. Even diplomacy finally feels fair, compared to previous Total Wars; smaller factions won't declare war on me without a chance, but also aren't pushovers when I try to conquer them. I have to strategize a lot. But it's manageable and fun and battles, of course, are very dramatic. And this is just vanilla. I can't wait to try the Divide et Impera mod.
